Default A lesson learned

Yes, I'm old and lazy. And I do depend on modern technology. I can't imagine being without my iPhone.

I also remember when I bought my new 2003 being amazed that it had "self-canceling turn signals" and 4-way flashers.

When I bought my 2005 Superglide, I thought the low fuel light was just plain stupid. It has a fuel guage.

When I switched to the Diamond Digital speedo, it didn't have a low fuel light and I told myself "no big deal". And it also does not have a way to hook up the "engine" light - It does have an "E", for the engine lightin the readout, but no way to connect it to make it work.

This morning, while riding, I went around a corner, reasonably fast, and the damn engine sputtered. I looked down and I was running on fumes. So, I guess I do need that "stupid" low fuel light to remind me to put gas in the tank.

I came home and connected the wire from the fuel guage to the "E" on the Diamond Digital so that it will come on when I am low on fuel - "E" for empty.

jmpancoast - take note......................

Cant understand why they did away with the 'reserve' on the newer bikes!

Cheers... Ben.

Funny post clutch,

Yea, We have come to depend on modern technology so much, we need a light to tell us there is no gas in the tank. Next thing they will have is a light to tell us when we have to take a pi$$.

When I was in my 20s I never would have dreamed of this thing called the internet or cell phones.

Agree with 96 wideglide. Gald my 98 has a reserve, and it also has a gauge.

I too miss the "safety net" of having a reserve. Being on the road it was nice to sputter out of gas once in a while, only to still have the ability of switching to reserve and make it to the next station to fill up. Now with the newer bikes we don't have that luxury...some of the simpler things were great on the bikes.

Same thing happened to a buddy in my chapter back in Ga. He has a new roadname now, "Flameout". I told them to go with "Gauge" but since I wasn't there and they told me after the fact, he got that one. Luckily you DIDN'T run out of gas!! I meant to comment on the iPhone earlier, I have a hard enough time dealing with the voice activated dialing on my Razor (it only took me a month to figure that beast out), I could only imagine the iPhone and all the crap that thing can do, LOL!!!

DWGMan - there is a pretty big learning curve with the iPhone (at least for me - about two weeks) but having basically a laptop and a phone in my pocket is worth it. Now if I could just figure out women, my life would be perfect.

Only cost and space effective way I can think of is a adjustable height fuel pick up for the pump. But even that would be wierd. So they put a sensor and a light instead.
