Thanks for the options guys, all nice , all different prices ,the cheapest would be the Cobra at $240, then the alloyart/ tripletree nut one at about $350 , then the combo HD one at $500 but not sure if it fits a SB, tough decision, I think the Cobra one is quite different which is what I like but the alloyart one is what I was after in the first place. I have a nice HD embossed handlebar clamp which I likeand would have to lose if I went the Cobra way. Anyhoo waffling on now, thanks again for all your help guys.
This is the setup I was talking about earlier. It really does look good if you ask me and JRK you will like the setup. I am not sure how it will be on other years but on the 06 they say that if you take the time to look through all the wires in the tank area you will find the adapter for the tach. I am not sure, I just hard wired it to the existing wires and it works great!
JRK, if you need any help or questions, let me know.
Would like to put a tacho on my Streetbob and was after advice if anyone has done it, what I would like to do is mount it on the lower side of the handlebar clamp as in part number 69439-06 but I cannot find a 'micro' tacho, maybe it would be to small anyway and I should get a 2 5/8" 'mini' tacho but cant gind a mount that sits on the low side of the handlebar clamp, anyone have any ideas??
I had to make my own bracket and I used the 2 5/8 mini tach.
Not exactly sure what you mean when you say you want to mount on the low side of the clamp. Mine is mounted on the rear riser clampbolts with the tach body facing forward, standard Harley part, think it was for an FL, but it works with some chrome washers to space it up a bit. Had to bend it a bit to clear my windshield but it works fine.
If you're really gonna used the tach for shifting when you're running all out I'd go with the 2 5/8 tach. The tiny ones are too hard to see.
Can't post pics here at work but there's some pics in my gallery.
Nice job Skip3406, nice and tidy, you would have saved some bucks as all you would have needed was the tacho and tach sleeve, would that have been about $200 total?
Harley used to make a bracket for, I think, the springer handlebar which i used to mount a Shift Gauge - see insert. If HD had a 1.5" tach with a shift indicator in it I probably would have put that in the mount rather than the shift gauge. One day I'll hook up my PC to my PCIII and use it to determine RPM's and mark the shift gauge so I have an idea what my RPM's are but for now I have a good idea if my engine is running steady just watching the shift gauge.
