I have a 07 Streetbob which comes standard with a 160 rear tire, when I need to replace it can I throw on a 180 or do I have to put a "wide tire kit" on, I would think the rim and clearances should handle a small upsize without any hassle?
The 180 tire will fit easily and has been used by many here in the Dyna forum. Some have elected to get the tire through the purchase of the wide tire kit. Most were influenced by the dealer saying they wouldn't install the wide tire on a bike still under warranty without using the kit.
Analternative is to install detachable sideplates because they use different brackets inside the fender which removes some of the protruding hardware and secures the wires tighter under the rear fender.
Some Dyna owners have succesfully installed the 180 tire only tucking the wires tighter under the fender with no other modifications.
The most common problems include the wider tire rubbing and skinning loose hanging wiring and rubbing against protruding hardware.Get that stuff out of the way and you are good to go. If you are running shorter shocks, you may need to stiffen them up to keep the before mentioned from occuring.
The MSRP for the kit from Harley is $265.95. You can find the tire (GT502 180/60B17)by itself for $75.00 to $90.00 cheaper.
