Trump you can do this... you dont even have to remove the nut ... Just loosen it enough to tap the axle over enough to slide the cover between the nut and swing arm..... 10 min... per side...

Trotter's right. The instructions on the Kuryakyn website estimate 20 minutes installation time. Loosen the axle nut enough to get a small amount of clearance for the brackets in either side, tighten down the axle nut, resintall the small cotter pin and screw the covers into the small brackets and you're done. Very simple compared to the HD axle covers I put on my Dyna. Now those were a pain in the azz due to clearance problems on the belt pulley side.

It is hard as hell. Took my buddy 8 hours and he has a complete workshop like OCC.

You're screwed.

I'll take 'em off your hands for $3 and save you the work. You pay shipping.

I'm silly like that.

I wish my name was Trump!

Okay, so I can gently tap it over with a hammer. That's perfect info and now I feel all warm inside again. Thanks Trotter! I originally thought it was saying I had to remove everything. I didn't see where I can slide the bracket thing on there.

These are the ones like I had installed on both of my Dyna's. They sound similar to the ones you are talking about in reguards to the bracket behind. These are not hard to put on at all.....nothing else had to come off either. A 5/16 gear wrench is highly recommended though.
i bought a set like these and it said the axle had to come out and installed from the opposite side because one side had a deeper cover to clear the nut. but i just swapped the covers only thing is if you look closely the hd emblem is upside down on both sides. guess when i have to take the tire off I'll try to remember to put the axle back in from the other side so i can put the covers on like they are supposed to be.

So okay, I admit it. I was a little "worried" over nothing. I thought that unscrewing the axle bolts (or whatever they're called) could allow the axle to move forward or backwards, but that's not the case. I guess that's why that axle adjustment screw thing is there.

So yeah, I loosened the axle nut, banged the axle over a hair, fitted one bracket, then the other. Tightened the nut back up and made sure the brackets were on straight (kind of a pain, really.) Reinstalled the pin and bingo! The hard part was really easy!

On the flip side, the "easy" part was a pain in the @ss. Attaching the covers to the brackets with two of the smallest screws ever produced ANDwith holes that wouldn't easily line up took a good 30 minutes. lol... Got 'em on, though.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, I don't actually ride the bike. I just carry a picture of it around in my wallet to pick up hot chicks.
