There's a couple of nicely priced 14" ape hangers on ebay right now, and was wondering if I were to purchase them, would I be able to use the stock cables and risers? I ride an 06' street bob, in case some of you don't know. I want some apes that are a bit higher and wider. So if any of you have some other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance!
RE: Wanting some 14" apes - Need to change cables?
More than likely. I put 16" apes on an FXR and had to extend everything. A good parts catalog that shows the ends and lengths can make your job a lot easier. I found out that the oversize cables I needed were the same as the stock cables on some other model bike. The dealer didn't carry the "oversize" for my FXR, but had the "stock" ones for the other bike under a different part number. Of course, I had to figure that part out myself and just tell the parts cashier what I needed.
RE: Wanting some 14" apes - Need to change cables?
I just put 13" fatty apes on my 07 streetbob and I had to get longer cables so the answer is "yes", you will need to get longer cables and you are also more than likely going to have to increase your wire length to reach the controls. I had to increase my wire lengths by about 6 inches and I ran them thru the bars to clean up the look. Alot of work but looks nice and well worth the extra time & effort. I bought my set up up of Ebay Handlebars, clutch cable, brake line, and throttle cables as a complete set on Ebay for around 280.00.
RE: Wanting some 14" apes - Need to change cables?
i have 14.5 and i had to change cables. so i change to +8, just incase i decide to go taller on the bars later on down the road.so nowi dont have to buy new cable, if i do and have to spend the cash again. jackyl
