Default wet sand, scratch remover and polish

To fix my scratch that I add when I put on my three foot sissy bar I'm considering...
1. mask off the area
2. 2000 or finer sandpaper the area
3. scratch remover polish
4. polish repeatedly

I figure the area is already an eyesore so what are some experiences that you guys have had with sratch removal? (good and bad) I'm not talking swirl marks here! I know that it will never be perfect unless I pay to make it that way but can I at least hide it some. Tips would be apreciated. Otherwise it might just be a vinyl sticker to hide my F up and never tell a sole it happened

Haven't you already told a lot of people that it happened?
And no one will ever mistake your bike with the 5 ft. sisy bar for a different one.

you may make some improvement but based on photo you probably will sand through, (scratches are on body line) you may be better off just leaving it you may make it worse IMO

In my experience and from what I have learned, scratches which you can run your fingernail across without it catching can be buffed and polished out. Your scratch looks to be in the paint and, in my opinion, beyond the type of repiar you are describing. I think you ar elooking at a paint job on the fender.

Put a decal over it.

Something like this -

I had some scratches on my tank and fender that I ended up wet sanding with 3000 and polishing overall the results were awesome but.....I did it as a last resort when nothing else worked and if you do decide to wet sand go slow. hope this helps

pull the fender and get it repainted.. probably cost less than the next mod you may have been thinking about.
If you're ok with the repaint then go ahead and try to buff it out with the method you described...It works... great..if not...
may save the painter a little sanding time

GLIDE 05-- I don't count forum buddies as "telling people". If my friends and fellow HD owers never knew thet would give me some hassels at the watering hole if you know what I mean. I looked at some decals today and found many I liked. The problem is I'm a school teacher and ride to work when the weather allows it and all the decals I like would not be thought of as verywell takenby many parents!Moms in school parking lots do not often "shakeyour *******" if ya know what I mean[8D]
