Default Works Shocks vs. Progressive

Getting ready to get shocks for my 08 FXDC. The progressives come in the 11" for a good price. I can get a deal at works, but they recomended going 11.6".

Everything I read on here is all Progressive. Anyone have any feedback on the Works? Works advised the 11.6 only has 1.9" travel so im wondering how much travel the 11" would have. Seems it would be alot less?

Any feed back would be great. Thanks.

Default RE: Works Shocks vs. Progressive

I have works performance Dual Rate shocks. These are significantly better than stock. I think the Dual rate theory is that the top spring will compress easier than the bottom. Once the top spring compresses all the way, then the stiffer bottom spring comes into play. The two are separated by a floating alloy spacer and plasic collar. This seems like a bad design to me - the spacer is just floating around between the shock and the spring. I noticed after my first ride - that there must of been some times when the spacer bound between the shock and the spring - causing scuffs in the nice chrome shock. I was kind of pissed and I called up Works - talked to a guy that seemed to understand what I was saying and he recommended that I find a way to affix the spacer to the body (why don't they do this?). I used a tiny bead of silicone sealer and managed to get this done with some patience. Seems to be holding - find out on the first huge pothole.

Anyway - back to the question - the rear of the bike is much less squirrely now than with the stock. I like the shocks. I actually went to 13", because I had previously went longer in the front, and also because I'm a freak and seem to like the opposite of the look that most go for on this forum.

I have never put either on any bike I have owned (wifes sporty has progressives that were on when we bought it) but if I were going to spend the money I would vote for Works. They are located near me and I know people who swear by them. Progressives are okay, but not as well made IMO...

I like the fact that they are built to order as well. Set up to your weight etc. I will agree with you that they seem to be very well made. They said about a little over a week to build.
