I am curious on how everyone will answer this. I really want some new shortshots, however since I'm completely stock, I also need a/c and fuel management at the min. My 300 dollar pipes turned into at least 600 dollars. I have my st. bob bars and cables here and am waiting for some signal relocations to come from J&P. Would you save your money and buy all the performance parts at the same time, or buy comfort or non performance mod (where money spent to things changed from stock in much higher) My last name is Dollar and I wish I was made out of it... lol
Well, if you're gonna race then spend the money on that kinda stuff. If you're gonna ride and obey the laws (most of the time anyway) then go for comfort 1st.
Depends on you and your riding style, for example some people couldn't care less about speed or handling for them it's all about style or comfort.Me I like to haul *** and 90% of my riding is a 30 min trip to work or back so comfort is not real high on my list, style is important but my idea of style doesn't involve adding chrome.Definately if your going to do the exhaust get it tuned right, you will not be happy if you don't.
For about $2K, I did a little of both. Got a 30 minute ride to work, but I'll take a 500 mile week end trip as well. Still got more stuff I want to do, but overall I'm happy with my ride. Figure I do a little more chrome and engine upgrades when it's time for a rebuild. May do the shocks and front end before then, but I'm not in a rush now. More time for riding.
I've been kinda tossing around the same issue....there are a lot of smaller things I want, like chrome parts here and there. I also want a good exhast but like you said, then there's the PCIII or the HD download, the Screamin Eagle stage 1 kit......money, money, money. Can't decide what to do first.
you can change exhaust without retuning (I did). add ac, then you'll need it. if you're happy with performance go for asthetics. don't forget though that all performance parts are just for the engine. shocks are performance mods and can also add comfort. you can never go wrong with chrome - it's like buying jewelry for the wife (which you'll probably have to do as well if you spend too much on the bike)
good luck. BTW, asking people on here where to spend your money is like expecting the government to balance the budget ...
I kind of like doing both. I used to have a 500mile a week commute and loved riding when the weather was good. I invested in some of the comfort stuff, rain gear, windshield, highway pegs and a few other things.
On the other hand I have spent quite a bit of money on upgrades.
A complete stage 1 with dyna tuning, PC3, pipes and air system is going to cost some bucks.
I have been thinking already about upgrading my engine to 107ci or 110ci.
There is really to much to do but the great thing for me is that I can go at my pace.
If I did not buy any upgrades and tossed the money twards my bike payment I could probably pay it off in half the time.
Have an overall plan before you start to throw money at your bike; know where you want to be when you're done with the major stuff (ie: what kind of riding will you do) I accumulated performance parts for two years then last winter had the bike stripped down to the bare frame and all last year rode my "vision". To me performance included suspension and unsprung weight. I'm sure I would first want to be comfortable and you can see by the pic what I consider bling.....
The pics are in two-up tour mode and solo street mode.
I have been trying to do both, and luckily my lovely wife and my parents bought me alot of the accessory chrome and comfort for my bday in oct and xmas. I have been saving since to get the pipes, PCIII, I already purcheased the AC stage one its in a box waitting. Along the way i have spent some money on a new light and chrome. But plan to have the pipes on by spring along with forward controls.
I want the pipes for the sound and the performance.
