What are the opinions out there about installing a rear shock lowering kit vs a set of Progressives (shorter than stock). I have an 02 FXD with the stock suspension. I'm 190lbs and will ride quite a bit with the lady who weighs much less than me I'm want the lower look and a comfortable ride for her too. Thanks in advance.
I had progressive's on my Intruder 1400 and thought they rode a little hard. I put the HD kit on my W-glide and I'm pretty satisfied. I'm 210lbs and ride with my son who is 90lbs. I would give HD's a little better rating against the prg 440's. They ( progressive) have other's to choose from that might ride better.
Kevin.
I am in the same boat as you, want to lower my LowRider but don't know whick is better; Progressive 440's or just have Harley dealer do it with original Harley lowering kit? What have you learned or decidec?
Thanks.
anybody have the part number for the lowering kit?? I didn't even know they made a lowering kit for dynas. will it work on the bob as well. let me know guys, my short *** might like this one.
The stock shocks from H-D are not all that good. If you want a comfortable ride, get some progressive 412's. With your load weight, use the standard springs.
With that in mind, why spend another $100 for a lowering kit? When you buy the new shocks, buy them 1" shorter.
So if I'm understanding you correctly, I should get the Progressive 412's and keep the springs from my stock set up. Again, I'm really looking for the safest handling for my bike, with and without a passenger along with a lowered look and feel.

The 412's come with springs. There is a standard set for standard duty, and a HD (heavy duty) for heavy loads. Get the 412's with the standard springs, and pitch your stock parts in the trash.
