Default Lowering kit

thinking of doing a lowering kit. I want to do new shocks as opposed to doing the studs. I am about 240 lbs., will I risk bottoming out with a rear lowering kit due to my weight, or if I ride 2up? I am looking at the HD kit, but am open to suggestions for others.

I dragged my floorboards a few times at stock ride height, and lowered mine 1 1/2 inches...You have to corner and hit bumps slower if You're lowering it any...I weigh 160, and seldom ever ride 2 up...
shock method of lowering-over $300
Burnout kit (stud extensions, no shock disassembly required) $100
also, depending on Your jack, You may not be able to get a bike jack under it after lowering it, and depending on how much you lower it, a shorter kickstand may be needed...just a few thoughts

Hey Shortfatboy

How easy (or difficult) are these things to install - could you explain the procedure?

Cheers

The install isn't too bad... You have to remove shocks and screw burnout kit on to shock studs. Then replace shocks and adjust for the amount you want lowered...On my deluxe (which is already somewhat lowered) I had to keep the kit at its highest point because it lowered it a little more that I wanted. There is no way I can ride two up without bottoming out. I'm 180 and taking typical curves does not scrape floorboards...Of course if I really lean into them I willscrape...In addition, I already lowered my forks so I was having to put a 2x6 under the front wheel for jacking, now with the rear lowered I have to put one under the rear tire as well. Good luck on whatever you decide.....

I may look into that kit. With my fatboy, I think I can lower it about 1.5 inches and still not bottom out. I don't mind having to put a 2x6 under the tire to jack it up. I may look into this.

I wanted to lower my fatty like this until read about platinum air ride that Primo put on his bike. I won't lower mine unless I can do this. And, when I realized I will lose cornering clearance as well, I just kinda lauged as I already have none.
