I just did mine similiar to several of you except I just bought a stock 21 sporster wheel and used the rim and spokes on my Bob hub. It took about 25 min to lace it. Stealership charged me $80 to true it but he said they charge $240 to lace it! Talk about robbery.

Please don't read more into this than intended, but.............
YOU SUCK!
I spent hours trying to figure it out. Three hours later, I had it done and was enjoying my newfound sense of self-pride. You just took that from me. Looks like I'm going back to alcoholism.
Well it would appear you can have that sense of self pride back. Not sure whats wrong but Bumpus HD says the wheel can't be trued laced as it is which is per the 19in spec in the service manual. They say the spokes can't touch. Not sure what i'm gonna do here. The rim is the same as those for a wideglide or softail or sportster. Whats different in your setup? Should I try to lace it as the 21 config?
Is my dealer full of $hiT?
go though HD wheels for spokes, great to work with.... HD front spokes use over unders and he knows what to get you any 21 in drop center spoke will not work... you will end up going though spoke after spoke... trust me... when i did twisted spokes on the front of my bob it took 5 sets of spokes cause i was trying to save some money... in the end my girl ended up calling HD wheels and just ordering the right ones i needed... then called me cheap... HEY there is a big diff from cheap to poor! ha ha ha... moral of story... Use Andrie at HD wheels good guy great products and they are perfect every time!
The 21" lacing instructions won't work because the 21s have a different type hub and are laced differently. The wheel you laced should have had all the spokes being threaded from outside of the hub,to the inside, then to the rim. This would set it up so two spokes next to each other also crossing each other near the hub. Further up the spoke configuration, asyou move alonga spoketo the rim, one single spoke will cross four other spokes which were laced from the same side of the hub.
The instructions for lacing a 21" wheel differs because the 21s use a conical type hub. This type of hub is laced with one spoke threading from the outside of the hub, to the inside, to the rim. The next spoke is threaded oppositely from the inside of the hub, to the outside, to the rim.
After reading your post, I went and checked the clearances between the spokes on the wheel I laced. Sure enough, the spokes touch. This worried me based on what your dealer told you. Then i checked my factory laced rear wheel. All the spokes touch there as well.
This leads me to believed theyare full of ****. I checked each intersection of spokes by trying to run a thin sheet of paper between them. The spokes touched at each intersection. Have them check the laced wheels on the bike of their showroom floor. I think they will findthe spokes touch. They should be able to relace all of them and file all the work as warranty related due to defective factory workmanship;that is, if the spokes are not suppose to touch.
Just my opinion.
I'd check with an indy and another dealer. I hope you will post your findings.
Ok, so I did some research and the one thing that hasn't been mentioned in this post is that the hub for Superglide and Streetbob are different. I guess i'll try to lace it as a 21in to see if it will work. JMPANCOAST's bike is a Superglide. I will post results as I have them.

Here's the problem though, the spokes I used are from a sportster which are short since it's a narrow glide hub. The spokes you used must be longer like from a wideglide to accomodate the wider hub. I'll try the spokes you called oout in your list and see if that works
I looked at the wheels on a bob and wideglide while at the dealership today. The spokes don't touch. When I say mine were touching, I mean they were bending over the others.
