Default Standard or Heavy

I thought I had already made up my mind to go with the Progressive 412s heavy duty but now I'm reading different things about them on different websites. One is telling me if you weigh over 225 you need the HD another says if you plan on loading the bike to capacity over 50% of the time you need HD. I might weigh 225 fully geared up but I'll probably never load it to capacity whatever that is.What do ya think? I also really like the fully covered 412s in black but I can't find them in HD.

Get the HD, I just got a set of standard and bottomed out so bad the first ride on them they blew a seals.
I am right around 205 with all my cold weather gear on.

I had the correct shock for a Dyna, just should have gone heavy duty.

Alright I went with the Heavy Duty, I had a hard time letting go of that money. I'll throw some pics up once I get em on it should look pretty sweet with the LePera seat.

Good decision Ed - put heavy duty 11" 412s on my bobstah and love them - I only ride solo and am a bit over 180 fully clothed, but I wanted a really firm, planted ride with great handling without any worries of bottoming, and I got it in spades (on the softest setting even). But you do feel every road irregularity and you really want to avoid any big bumps or pot holes at speed!! May not be for everyone, but if great handling with excellent control is your goal, you'll be happy.

Chipstah, what setting do you use? I'm planning to go to 412s (either 12" or 12 5/8"), and I had the same concern as Ed. I usually ride solo, but I do load up the saddlebags and throw on another bag regularly, and I weigh about 190. I wanttighter handling, but Iride some fair distances and don't want the ride to be stiffer than it has to be.

I left it on the 'softest' setting just as they came out of the box. It is still stiff compared to the stock shocks, but I really haven't noticed any issues, but like I said, it is firm. I travel a lot of back roads and that's where you notice it the most, out on the highway or on smooth roads it really isn't noticeable. Also put Progressive springs in the front and lowered it to level the bike.

And just so you know, I have heavy duty/sport suspensions on all my vehicles (4x4 PU, BMW, Sportster), just my preference and I'm used to it. I always found the street bob stock suspension to be dictating to me how I was cornering, now I feel much more in control and actually safer (quicker response, no diving, really holds the line), a really good trade off for the stiffness IMHO. Oh, and I wouldn't call myself an excessively aggressive rider/driver. Just appreciate good handling and will do what it takes to achieve it.
