Anyone got one out there, I fitted one the other day and noticed that the bulb, which the directions note: has a 'iridium coating' has shed a lot of this coating in sort of filiments??, several of which have spread out over the inside of the lens, is the coating supposed to come off like that? Anyone know part number or the best place to get a new bulb, I checked my local auto shop and they never heard of them before. To be honest I had never seen a bulb with a red filiment before either.
Is it the filament? Or the bulb itself coated red? I don't have one, but there are a lot of them out there, somebody?I want to get one myself, so am curious.
It might just be me, but it kind of looks like your lens. I remember people having problems with the lens melting in that area. Just something to check.
edit: looked at it again. heck I don't know now. it does look like the bulb is flaking or something. hey these bulbs areexpensive too!
Yep, looks to me like the bulb is too close to the lense. I'm not sure where you buy them but Kuryakyn is pretty darn proud of those iridium bulbs. Sylvania, a subsidiary of the company I work for, makes them I think. I bought the iridium coated bulbs with the Kury turn signal bezels and the difference in the price per pair for the bezels alone and the bezels with the bulbs was like $20. So that's $10 a bulb and they are probably smaller than a tail light bulb. Glad I went with the LED laydown tail light.
It's just a coating. Tried one with a smoked lens and didn't have any heat problems, BUT, I didn't like the lame rosey color, just didn't give enough day time visibility (IMO). Went back to stock and ordered the LED.
