Looking for some different handlebars for wifes Low Rider - She wants different angle (pull back) ? Has anyone changed their bar's to buckhorn style? Did you need to replace the cables or were you able to use existing cables? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I took the stock buckhorns off of my 07 FXDC and replaced them with 07 FXDL bars. I had no problems with the wiring or cable.
Rick
Thanks Rick,
Looking through the P & A, trying to decide on 56081-82T or 56556-95. Does anyone know if existing cable will work, or do we need to change. Thank's, dave.
i changed the stock bars on my 07 fxdl to buckhorns i bought on ebay. i had to change the risers to lower rise ones or the cables were to short. be careful with the risers you buy if you value the "idiot lights". Some wont be interchangeable with the light mount on the riser. I just tucked them into the dash and said the heck with it.
I love them, they are not common like drag bars and ape hangers, so it gives it a uniqueness to it. I can send a picture if you'd like?
Good luck
Measure the stock handle bars for width, height. and pull back so you have a starting point. Have her sit on the bike and put her hands where she wants them. Measure how far apart they are, how far back, and how high they are compared to stock. That way you'll know what measurements to hunt for in the catalog. I wanted my hands closer together and closer to me. After all the measuring Isettled on Ness short track bars. I was comfortable but found in parking lots my elbows were hitting my chest so I replaced the stockpull backrisers with 4" tall straight ones to move the bars a few inches further forward from my chest. I'm good now. My idiot lights are on the headlight shroud on my FXDLand I can't see them while riding and thatwould be the only negative. At night they reflect off the windshield but during the dayI justcan't see them.Never had any issues with cables. The JP catalog has a zillion handlebars with specifications on width, height and pull back and a big selection of risers too. Be sure to really protect the tin too. With all that stuff hanging off and wrenches in hand it is really easy to accidently ding the paint. Don't ask me how I know.
Oh, if she is small this is a good time to install some Kurakyn trigger handles for the clutch and front brake. They arewonderful forthose of uswith small hands.
