FXDC vs FXDL
The salesman told me that one of the main differences in these two bikes is the rake. I believe he said the low rider is 32 degrees and the super glide is 28 degrees, which pulls the front wheel closer to the frame on the super glide. I have ridden the low rider and like the way it handles, feels etc. I have not ridden the super glide. Will the rake make a difference in the way the bike rides? I have also read that some say the super glide is a choppy ride. Have you ridden both and is there a noticeable difference? Thanks.
I have a lowrider, my brother has a superglide...I have rode his bike on numerous occassions and they ride very much alike. I do however like the look of the 32 degree rake over the 28. 4 degrees is a pretty big difference in appearance when you consider that most people want to rake their bike out 3-5 degrees after they purchase it.
The difference is a degree and a half. The FXDC is 29 degrees. The Low Rider is 30.5 degrees. I haven't riden a LR but I don't think that little bit of difference will mean much, if anything in the handling. The FXDL is a great looking bike, but for the price the FXDC is going to be hard to beat.
Both the Low Rider and the Superglide Custom has a rake of 29 degrees. Your salesman needs to do some reading on the new models (from 2006). Earlier there was a difference. The main difference between riding the Low Rider and the Superglide Custom is your stance whielseated. The risers on the Low Rider gives a more laid back position. For cruising this is great. On my own Low Rider I wish for a more forward leaning postition for a more active style of riding.
Have you looked at both bikes, brand new? I don't think the lowrider is raked out anymore over the other dyna's. I read the reason why at some point but can't remember what it was but I think they stopped raking the LR a couple of years ago. I've got nothing against the LR but, to me, you are paying a lot more money for black powder coat on your engine and a tachometer over how they now price the FXDC. I know there are other differences, and this is just my opinion, biased as it may be, but I can't find anything to justify the price gap between the 2 bikes. Last year, when I bought mine, they were closer together in price but not this year. I don't think the LR is a badly priced bike, but the FXDC is now priced at such a bargain as far as bang for the buck goes, it's harder to pass up.
Bikes have same rake at 29 Deg..
Lowrider is .4 " longer, has witha 4.5" trail vs. 4.7" on SG.
That is from the HD website comparing the two.
Looks like the only thing making it lower is the rear shocks.
But that's just my guess, someone else might know better.

I made the same comparison before purchasing my 2008 FXDC. The LowRider is $2000 more. The only difference, IMO, is the added tac on the LR and the 1" lower seat height. I don't need the tac and for $350 I put lowering shocks on the Glide that gave me nearly a 1" lower ride. I'm ahead $1600. That will be used to buy bags, a windshield, a sissybar and rack, grips, pegs and an engine guard. Tell me again, why do you want the LR?
