Default bar change difficulty

I'm not much for turning wrenches but i do alright. anyone change over their bars that can tell me what it's gonna entail. How difficult it will be or if i should just have the dealer do it. changingfrom mini apes to flat track. i'm sure i'll need shorter cables too.

Dude if you're mechanically inclined you'll be fine. I'd say5 outa 10 wrenches for difficulty. Are you going to internally wire them while you're at it?
I just changed out my stock mini apes to black mini apes. I drained and pulled the tank off to make it easier to get the wiring harness connectors.
Ittook me about 12 good hours of work. This included drilling the bars, installing new poly bushings, internal wiring and relocation of directionals to forks.
You will need the shop manual. It goes over removing controls, brake, clutch and throttle cables, gas tank, dissassembly of wire connectorsand has all the torque specs you'll need
to reassemble. If you're not sure have an Indy shop do it. The dealer will rape you on labor.
Good Luck.

Changing from mini apes to flat track bars is pretty easy. You will not need shorter cables. If you're not familiar with Harley bars it's a little different. You will need some Torx bits to get the switch housings or clamps apart, pay attention to how it comes apart and you'll be fine. The main differences I noticed were the switch housings clamped down over the wiring on top of the indentations or "dimples" in the bars and also clamped down onto a ring on the grips. You may want to get some zip ties to snug the wires up to the bars and if you're carefull you can bend the brake line over closer to the bars and it'll look decent. You're really going to like these bars, trust me.

This guy did an excellent play by play action of changing handlebars, gratitude toBESTOFINDICA forum member. Check it out, good info and pics. You're going from longer to shorter, so a lot may/may not apply, but check it out anyway. I'm about ready to go from shorter to longer and will be printing his post out as a handy reference. Plus 1 on getting the manual, I'm a 5/10 wrencher myself, and definitely glad I have the manual.

Anyway, here's the link to Indica's step by step bar changeout:

Good luck, keep us posted of any tricks you may find or trouble you may have.

If you're not doing internal wiring I doubt you will need a shop manual, I didn't and you won't need to take your tank off just be sure to cover it with a towel or blanket while you're working so you won't scratch it.If you don't have to run out for tools like I did it shouldn't take more than about an hour.
