Long timelurker on this board!
I plan on installing the chrome pulley cover this weekend. While looking over the service manual last night, i came across a section titled "Vehicle Alignment." For anyone who has installed the cover, new pulley, or who has removed the rear wheel and put it back on again - what steps did you take to realign the rear wheelwhen reinstalling? I understand the procedure covered in the manual for making sure the rear axle and wheel are properly aligned, however, i get lost when the service manual goes into making sure the front and rear brake calipers are parralel to one another, adjusting a tension bolt, etc. How much of this is necessary?
IfI'm able toget some clarificationonmy questions, I will post a step by step guide with photos for those who may be interested. This forum has been very helpful to me andI would like to contribute back for those who may be interested in this modification. Thanks
I did it myself and, while I'm not afraid of a wrench, I'm no mechanical wiz.
If you remove the rear wheel without moving the axle spacers or loosening the belt tension, it should go back on already aligned. Just check the alignment per the manual.
Here's a link to a thread I created after I got mine done. If you need more detail, let me know, I'll help as best I can.
Thanks for thehelp already and the heads up...I read through those posts and I'm feeling a little more confident. Did you install new chrome bolts and did you have to remove your v&H big radius rear cylinder exhaust?

I didn't have the Big Radius at the time, just slipons. But, yes, you would need to remove anything blocking access to the axle. I'd also suggest going ahead and removing the right side passenger peg mount if you have one as well. When you remove the shock bolts and let the swingarm down, the peg mount could hit your pipes and do damage.
Yes, I went ahead and replaced the bolts with chrome ones. They are extra cost but they look better and HD recommends changing the bolts when you remove them anyway.
Got another one for you! Torque wrench - I need one that measures ft lbs. correct? If so, I have one and should be good to go. Thanks man, don't mean to be a pain in the butt.

Yes, definitely need one and it should be foot lbs. Be sure to use it on the pulley bolts, axle, and the shock bolts. Also be sure to put anit-seize on the axle before putting it back in.
do your self a favor and put the dam axel back in from the left side
so the next time you put a tire on or whatever you don't have to take off the exhaust. take off the bottom belt guard and let the wheel drop straight down so you don't have to loosen the adjustment and every thing should be fine..
