Default 06 Lowrider Windshield

One of my Christmas presents this year was a new detachable windshield for my 06 Dyna Lowrider. I thought I was going to love it till I reached 55mph. The turbulence shook my helmet so violently that I couldn't see through my sunglasses. I tried sliding the detachable mounts as high as possible on the forks but this offered little help. I'm 6' tall so I don't think my height should be an issue. I was thinking of exchanging for the low profile version but the dealership wasn't sure if this would help or make matters worse. Anyone else with this problem and know of a fix?

You definitely will need a taller 'shield. I'm only 5'6" but on my FXDCI, the low profile shield was pretty much useless at higher speeds or strong headwinds - buffeting on my helmet was so strong that I literally had problems seeing down the road. I swapped it for a standard height and this made a HUGE difference - although I still experienced a little buffeting. The problem I have is that I prefer to look over the windshield and not through it so I can't even consider a taller windshield (and anyway, I think tall windshields look like *** on most bikes).

I've got the low profile lightly smoked detachable windshield for my 2006 Super Glide Custom. Looks cool (for a windshield) but it's not worth a $hit. I have the same issues with the buffeting and my glasses shaking all over the place. I had my windshield all the way as low as it would go on the forks when it did this. I thought that perhaps moving it up two inches to the top would help but haven't had the chance to try that yet. From what was just said I guess that won't help either. I only got the windshield for cold weather riding but if it's going to do this then I'll just leave it in the box and forget about it.

Here's what the low profile windshield looks like:

the buffeting isn't coming from the top. It comes from underneath your windshield.

This will solve your problem

http://jacksflaps.com/ watch the video and you'll see what i mean.

or install lower wind deflectors which will help as well. (i'm just not sure if anyone makes them yet for the 49mm forks)

Btw, nice scoot powercobra.

Great avatar Towjam. That guy is hilarious.

He's probably right. While riding, move your hand around and find out exactly where the buffeting is coming from. You get a tremendous amount of air from down below.

If you try moving your windshield all the way up and it helps, please let me know. I have till the end of the month to either return the current shield or exchange it.

Take your left arm and put it across your chest at 60 mph and see how much the buffeting and wind noise is drecreased, then go to www.jacksflaps.com to get the fix. As posted, the wind comes up from below in an attempt to fill-in the low pressure area caused by the windshield. I have a wide glide and had the same problem so that is why I invented the "AeroVest" ---jack ps go to the "all forums " section, then scroll down to "this N that" then go to product reviews and read what others report about the vest

Are you working on a jacket version? It's pretty cold up here in Western NY for better than half of the riding season.

I am 6ft tall and I have the Quick Release Detachable Compact Windshield - Standard - Height.

I picked it up on the third day of my ride out to Sturgis this past summer and rarely ride without it now.

If I sit up really straight I see over the top of the WS. If I slouch down slightly I see through the WS. Either way I get very little buffeting either with my 1/2, 3/4 or full face helmet.

I do notice a little buffeting if I take my left hand off the handlebars but only a little.

All in all I am very happy with my WS.
