Default 08 fxdb forward controls

So I did it, the kit was complete with everything I needed and then some. I opted out of pulling the primary housing like alot of guys do. Felt a little bad about it because I hate to jerry rig, but hell if I was gonna try to pull it. Sawed off the mid shaft nice and easy after covering everything with shop rags to prevent shavings in the primary. Looks a hell-of-alot better and feels even better.

The dealer I bought my 08 FXDB installed the forward control kit for $250. That way, I don't have that mid-control shift rod (or a portion of it) sticking up. I would save up and have it done the right way, but that is just me.

All I did was pull the primary chain cover and saw off the mid-shift shaft about two inches. After that it won't stick out of the primary cover and you can install the plug that comes with the kit. As for the mid-shift lever, it folds down behind the primary housing, and if you don't go looking down there for it you won't find it. I agree with LtRex, if you got $250 laying around and you don't want the satisfaction of doin it yourself. My problem was I didn't want to wait a month for an appointment, here in Hawaii they get backed up. I will go ahead and pull the whole enchilada when I have the service manual in front of me and I have another reason besides a lever I can't see to get rid of.
