Default '15 Streetbob Forward Controls Mod

Hey all,
So I'm 98% sure that im gonna mount forward controls on my bob. Im looking at the factory Harley relocation kit http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ntrol-49021-09 because it is a total relocation. I do understand that installing this kit will require removal of the primary housing, compensator, clutch basket, and starter, all so the mid control shaft that goes through the primary can be removed and the covers plugged.

My question is, have any of you installed the factory kit before and if so, how do you like it? Is it worth the work to use the factory kit? Any issues with the kit? Heard any horror stories from people installing this kit?. Im plenty capable of doing the mods so no issue on that end of it.

Let me know what you guys think. All input is appreciated so thanks!

I went back to mids and it was not bad at a all. I got the bike used and new the first owner. He had the dealer install the forwards.
When I got into the primary, I saw the dealer had cut the shifter shaft in the middle of the primary and bent the shifter arm on the other side of the primary and tightened onto one of the case bolts.
I just followed the manual and some of the threads here. I have an '06 so I put the baker ipb in and tack welded the screws on the stator.
You have the right idea working on it yourself. I have not worked on bikes before but man once you start you will have fun.

I installed the HD kit on my 2014 SB without removing inner or outer primary. Cut mid shaft, slid out the front, install forwards. Here's a good thread on such.

Well after test driving one this summer, I would say that forward controls are a must on that bike.

Thanks for the info everyone!
So Ricketts I know the HD kit comes with a plug for the primary cover but after cutting and removing the shaft Im thinking the hole in the back is still open? Are you getting a oil leak from back there or is this shaft sealed off from the primary oil already and the front plug is just a cosmetic thing. Sorry for my ignorance, the last primary I had apart was on my EVO so I dont know the design differences on the twin cams yet.

Hey jricharc, yes let me know how it goes! Im thinking this is the way to go for sure!

You could go like I did with the Kuryakyn kit 9063/9064 no disassembly at all,, there's a chrome cover for that shaft, you could paint it black,,
and Dennis Kirk has'm on sale right now.
Easy install, takes a few hours and your done.

The tunnel that the shifter shaft runs through is sealed by a gasket between the inner and outer primary covers:
