Default Reusing Wheel Bearings

I had my wheel bearings pulled before I powder coated my mags and had the intention of reusing them. I don't have a press so I took them to the dealer to press them back in. Sooo........I go to pick my wheels up and they say they won't put them back in be cause they are not new. I understand liability but has anyone pressed there old ones back in?....only 3K on them. Before I had them pulled I asked them if they would still be good to go as I wanted to reinstall them and they said "yes". Now its $30 x 4 to get it back on the road.

Is it too late to do it yourself?, you just need a socket the same size as bearing and hammer down until they go in place, I have done car bearings before, I am assuming its the same procedure.

The dealer is looking to make another buck. There is no reason that you cannot use wheel bearings with only 3K on them. If you don't feel comfortable doing the job yourself, just take the wheels to anyautomotive machine shop, or an independent motorcycle shop. Its a simple job on a press.

They got me paranoid.......I was thinking that they could have gotten "tweaked" when they pulled them out.

Only thing gettin "tweaked" is gonna be your wallet. Take it somewhere else to put the bearings back in. Only 3k on them, they'll be just fine.

I too have reused wheel bearing over the last 27 yrs of riding. I would venture to say that with only 3K miles on them they are good to go. Depends how carefully they were taken out. If their appears is good and they roll smoothly. Then take a hammer and socket the size of the outside race and tap them in. There is also a screw type press that auto shop sell for doing U-Joints. This is cheap (30- 40 dollars) that you can used. It like a big "C" Clamp with the screw type press. Works real well. Done it many times. Have to cover back side of wheel and use a socket the size of the race. Good luck hope this helps you.

I suggest installing new bearings.
Next time you're doing 100+, you might get to thinking about the re-used bearings?
