Hi folks,
i have been serching the net for black forward controls for my street bob, with no success, any one got any ideas where to look.
and does any one know why the 2000 to 2005 forwards won't fit the 2006, or can they be made to fit somehow.
many thanks
stewart
2006 has a new tranny so the linkage is a little different... no room. Also, if you put a 2005 kit on a 2005 dyna, odds are the shift lever will be sticking out the primary and have a 1" chrome cover on it. It looks like crap. The 2006 kit comes with a outer primary plug for a much cleaner look. The 2006 kit requires removal of the inner primary case and removal/replacement of the old shift lever (which is taller than the stock mid).
As for black, I bought the HD chrome kit and then supplemented it with the black parts off the 2006 wideglide. It was about $200 more but I really didn't want to add more chrome. Looks awesome!
You can powdercoat over chrome. You have to give it something to grab on to, though. A light bead blast or rough it up with a green scrubbie works well. If it's polished alum, you lightly sand it with fine sandpaper and water.
