Matrix, great post. I added a few things to it based on my experience with it.

Good post and info, but I have a silly question.

On both the front wheel and rear wheel there are the spacers, and these spacershave the notches as mentioned.
What is the use of these notches on the spacers, and whenI put both wheels back on, I didn't have the notches facing a certain direction or anything.

Just curious of whatI am missing, and don't think the service manual mentioned them either.

I meant to ask Matrix this as well. If the service manual mentions it, I didn't see it and, therefore, paid no attention to it whatsoever when I put my wheel back on. I don't even remember seeing any notches in the spacers.

Yeah, I noticed notches on one spacer on the front, and one on the rear.
After I took them off of course, then went a little frantic figuring it might be important to have marked or noticed where they go.
Checked the manual and it didn't mention anything as far as I noticed.

So I just thought maybe someone could enlighten me if I goofed.

I can only assume that I am correct in saying this only because of the pictures that I have taken before disassembling the front and rear wheels.......

**** If looking from the rear of the bike the spacers with the v notches in them need to be on the right side of the wheels with the v notches pointing away from the bike. I think the v notches are there just to determine which spacer is for the right or left, (If the spacers are installed wrong due to one being wider than the other your brake rotor would not line up correctly with the brake caliper), why the v goes facing outward, you got me on this one but I do know that this is how they were installed from the factory, so that is how they are going back on.

Another helpful hint....... Use your digital camera whenever working on your scoot, you can always go back and have a look at the pictures if you have any doubts. I have found this to be as important a tool asmy wrenches.

Hope I was able to help clear that up a little.

Matrix, the spacers on either side of my wheel were different widths so I only kept up with which one went on which side. I did not notice any v notches because the manual didn't make an reference to it but they could have easily been there and I didn't notice. Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully, they are, at most, a reference point, and don't really have or affect any functionality. I've ridden several hundred miles since I replaced the wheel with no ill affects so hopefully it is okay as-is.

If anyone knows for a fact that there is a function or importance to those notches other than what has been discussed here, please point it out with details. I don't really want to take my wheel off again just to check and align notches if they really don't do anything to begin with.

I just spoke to a HD tech and he told me that the v notch just indicates which side of the bike the spacer goes on. I was told that when sitting on the bike the smaller spacer goes on the right side of the bike. Everything else is unimportant. I will install mine the way they came off but it seems that it does not make a difference.
