On my bike I have a screaming eagle air filter but have the cover still. My question is since that filter says do not oil can i have the cover off so I can just get that old school look or do I need a k and n or whatnot? It throws me off if i can or not cuz sometimes i get caught in rain storms soI dont wanna muck up the fotor from wet roads or water falling on it. Thanks for the help.
i've got a k&n filter on my '04 fxdx with and it's only covered on the outer part and open on the breather side. The thing about this type of k&n air filter is that u can wash it and oil it back like for every 2500miles. But even if it's an oiled airfilter, i think it's best to have it covered, since the rain still could wash away the oil.
I assume your is the round shaped SE air filter, i dont think you're supposed to have it on without cover. There's a model of air filter that is meant for open air, looks like small cone, and mostly installed with airhose adaptor connected to the breather/carb.
But if u insist on doing it with your current air filter, go to your dealer and ask for this thing like a net for the air filter and it sort of repels the water from getting sucked in. If you have '08 catalog, look it up, there's SE air filter the cone look alike and that net as well.
Toss that POS SE filter and get a K&N......then go to AAP or autozone and get the K&N cleaning kit and never buy another air filter again. AL Gore will thank you......
