Default lubing throttle cables

Changing my handgrips at the moment and was going to put a couple of drops of oil as recommended down the throttle cables, question is what's the right type of oil to use?

Picked mine up from the stealer. It's called lubit-8 super oil with teflon (p/n SD-003/70003). It comes in a container with a needle built for easy application. I think it was about $3.50 as I recall.

I've got a tool for lubing cables. But I've never used it. Not exactly sure how it works. Looks like it clamps on the cable on one endand you "inject" lube in the other.

I'd post a pic, but I dont' have a camera at my disposal.

Anyone know what i"m talkin' about?

Bike-Aid/Dri-Slide works good. The Tufoil Lubit 8 looks good too, but never tried it. Anything with a needle tip is easy to use, just take the top off the switch housing and squirt it down the cables. No need to loosen the cable adjusters or take them out of the switch housing.

I've got one of these. It's a hydraulic cable oiler and it works perfectly. You disconnect the cable at one end. Fix the oiler onto the cable, fill it with oil and turn the screw. The oil is forced down the cable and runs out the other end. It's the only way to oil a cable properly unless you can take it apart. I use a thin oil and it makes an amazing difference.

You can get them on eBay for about ÂŁ18 ($40). They are expensive but nothing does the same job so easily. It's one of those tools that you buy then wonder how you lived without one. Highly recommended.

Yeah, I've had mine for at least 15 years. I bought it at a second hand tool stall. I think I paid about ÂŁ2 for it. I bought it to see if it would free up the clutch cable on my old BSA. It worked a treat. I've seen new ones at autojumbles for about ÂŁ10.
