1) Once you get forwards it will be the best feeling bike you have ever rode!

2) 6’3” and 285 lbs no problems with power at stock! I can even throw my sister on the back that is about 145 lbs and don’t even notice her on the back even with lots of hills!!!!

3) It’s winter time so the stealers are chomping at the bit to sell something! My advice would be to go to 3 local dealers and play the game and have them bid against each other.

I had the dealer install the forwards before I took delivery. They cost me about $600 installed as apart of the deal.

If you are considering a Super Glide over the Super Glide Custom due to price, I would recommend going with the Super Glide Custom for a little more. The true fat bob tank and key switch console are worth the price difference alone. I have read a lot of posts on here over the past year of Super Glide buyers wishing they would have bought the Custom due to the price of moving the Speedo and adding the chrome that is standard on the custom.

The superglide is the most bike for the buck in the H-D lineup. It's got the wonderfull96 in. motor,6 sp. etc. and it's the lightest, best handling of all the big twins. The guys who like more flash go for the other models but I have always appreciated the simple motor with two wheels look.Riding two up in the SmokiesI never felt the need for more power (380 lbs. plus luggage) the torque is there right off idle.I can hardly tell any difference with a passenger. If you want more power in the future a simple stage 1 "kit" will net you another 10%

I'll respond to your specific questions below in red font. Keep in mind that on anything HD above the Sportster, you are going to get the same motor with the small difference of a rigid-mounted, counter balanced version on the Softails. So horsepower and torque is going to vary very little from one model to the other. There are some other things to consider, such as the weight of the bike itself. However, I don't think any of them will appear to be underpowered to you when riding up and down mountains and/or passing vehicles. The FXD is a great bike and a great value. However, if you are a chrome addict, consider the value of the FXDC as well. For a grand more, you get a lot of extras that you might find yourself paying more for if you might want to add the same components to your FXD.

Cheers!

New to this forum. New to HD's. Been off-road the last few years, and need to scratch my itch for an on-road machine. Always wanted a Harley, and have finally "convinced" the wife....

Looking at the new '08 Super Glide. I'm 6'2", 260lbs. Looking to ride between Gilbert(1200ft) and Happy Jack (7000 ft), about 125 miles each way, so EFi is appealing. Need enough torque to pass trucks uphill.
I'm 6'4", 240lbs and love my 07 FXDC.

1. Is this going to be a comfortable ride?
Comfort is different for everyone. The dyna's ride great, IMO, but you have to ride one and figure this out for yourself. The stock seats on most of the bikes are not comfortable for long hauls. But, along with many other add-ons, a new seat is something a lot of people do after purchasing a bike. I have 3 seats total.
2. Is this gonna have enough power uphill?
Oh hell yes!
3. Any advice on negotiating with dealer? Have talked to Chesters.. They want MSRP, plus tax, reg, license, etc. willwaive setup & freight. (MSRP - $11995, OTD - $13,600) Will try and get forward controls out of them though...
MSRP plus tax, title, and tags is fairly standard. Although there are always dealers out there that try to add more profit in by charging for setup and things like that. On the other hand, dealers are hurting right now and it probably wouldn't be that hard right now to find one that will offer you at least some incentives to buy. They may offer a discount on the bike itself (rare unless it's a new 07 model) or offer to wave setup (BS fee anyway) and/or freight (a good start), or they may even throw some in store credit, discounted or free service, etc. at you. The dealer I bought from sold me my bike for MSRP plus freight, tax, title, and tags and wasn't offering anything in the form of an incentive. Today, they are now offering no freight, free first service, and $1000 in store credit with purchase of any new 08 model.

The first mod I made to my bike was highway pegs. The second was replacing them with forward controls. With my height, it makes the bike fit much more like a glove and I wouldn't have it without them.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Happy trails.....

I originally wanted a Low rider and/or a Fatboy...that's until I sat on my '07 Super Glide Custom!

1) Answer: I'm 6', 240 lbs &* with forward controls it'll be the most comfortable Harley you'll sit on guaranteed! Believe me...I sat on EVERYTHING before I bought mine! Alot of guys complain about the stock seat...it honestly never really bothered me too much & I even kinda grew to liking it. I only bought my solo seat mostly for looks.

2) Answer: Power? Plenty of it & then some! 96" motor pushing 1550 cc...I think you'll be pleasantly impressed!

3) Answer: From '07 to '08 the msrp on the FXDC dropped about a thosand bucks so definately try to go with an '08. I paid $14,200 for mine, but it already had about $2,000 worth of "stuff" already done to it. Harley dealers don't usually budge on anyhting & the only thing you'll usually get free is a framed picture of you on the bike when you go to pick it up! Forward controls will cost you between $500-$600 bucks installed, so if you can get them to do that I'd be very surprised! I tried to get Harley to include a helmet or $100 gift card & they looked at me like I had 2 heads! If YOU don't buy the bike someone else not long after you will.

I too came from offroad - been riding/racing bikes and quads for 30 years. I had seriously considered a FXDC last year when I was looking. Everyone that rode HD's that I knew said - buy a bagger. I was looking at the cost and thought I'd just put bags and a windshield on the Dyna and I'd be happy. Well, I went to a demo day at Chester's (since you live in the valley, you know who that is) and spent about 2 hours riding 9 different bikes. From the Street Bob to the Ultra and even a Sporty even though I knew I wasn't going to buy one. I really like Dyna's, but there's a long haul comfort benefit to the touring bikes. You won't be able to understand that until you hop out on the freeway and get moving at 70+. That's when the shortfalls of the other bikes start to show up. Some might argue what they are, but that's what I found to be the case.

Riding from Gilbert to Happy Jack a lot would be fun a few times on the Dyna, but after that, you may want something better/different. I commute 70 miles RT daily on my EG. After running a few road trips too, I can tell you first hand that baggers have some distinct advantages. I'm 6'1" 250 for reference.

With Cycle Week coming up the 1st week of April, there will be plenty of bikes to demo. Take that opportunity to test a bunch out. Ride everything! You'll likely be able to narrow things down there, then either rent the ones you are serious about, or go to the dealers to see if they will let you do a 1 or 2 hour test ride. PM me if you want to know about where I bought and why.

you should really look into the superglide custom over the FXD the $1000.00 difference is worth every penny, you will get that grand back on resale or trade in(if you ever choose too) with no problem.like was stated before, the tank console with speedo and ignition switch is worth that, let alone all the extra chrome,2-up seat with pass. pegs, and badging.

Couple of thoughts on FXDC's comments. First, yes HD forwards will cost you that much if you get them installed. However, I bought Kuryakyn forwards from a dealer on ebay for $300 shipped and easily installed them myself. They install much easier than HD forwards, look nicer IMO, and you can easily go back to mids if you want and/or before you sell or trade your bike.

As far as getting them to give you something or there being people standing in line to buy the same bike. I'm sure they'll make you feel like that is the case to get you to buy the bike. But, these days, that's simply not the case as much as it used to be. Worst thing that can happen is that you ask for a "bone" and they so no - right? I'll bet if they believe throwing you a "bone" is going to come between selling you a bike TODAY, at full tilt (retail MSRP) and walking, they'll throw you the bone. Because, not only is it less likely that someone else is waiting to buy the same bike, it IS likely that the next dealer down is willing to throw you a bigger "bone" and they KNOW it.

I'd recommend you contact at least one other dealer if you have one close enough, tell them the deal you are being offered, and see if they will beat it.

In August I got an 07 Superglide FXD and am really happy with it. I got a great bargain because it was late in the year and they were trying to get rid of the 07's. I changed the bars to 15" apes, everything else is stock. The bike seems to have more power and sounds better after the motor is broken in. I did my 1,000K service at 800 miles and used synthetic oil, runs a lot smoother on the highway with the synthetic...I definately noticed the difference.
