Default Super Glide advice

Cheers!

New to this forum. New to HD's. Been off-road the last few years, and need to scratch my itch for an on-road machine. Always wanted a Harley, and have finally "convinced" the wife....

Looking at the new '08 Super Glide. I'm 6'2", 260lbs. Looking to ride between Gilbert(1200ft) and Happy Jack (7000 ft), about 125 miles each way, so EFi is appealing. Need enough torque to pass trucks uphill.

1. Is this going to be a comfortable ride?
2. Is this gonna have enough power uphill?
3. Any advice on negotiating with dealer? Have talked to Chesters.. They want MSRP, plus tax, reg, license, etc. willwaive setup & freight. (MSRP - $11995, OTD - $13,600) Will try and get forward controls out of them though...

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Happy trails.....

To start off, I have an '08 Super Glide Custom. So, the answers below are just my opinions on that bike (close enough though);

1. Yes. Very. Even better if you go with the forwards, for your height (I'm 5' 10").
2. Yes, and more. You'll be surprised, very surprised.
3. No advice. I saw what I liked, made a deal for a free detachable windshield thrown in, a security system installed for $150 and bought it. That was back in August of '07. OTD it was about $15,200.

In my opinion, I'd say try to take one out for a ride first, and see if it fits you, and how you like it. It is a very nice ride, but might not be the one for you. Try a few out. Let us know on what you decide.

We are the same size...I have an 07 FXD

1. w/ Forwards, and a new seat you will be comfortable
2. I live Below Sea Level, so theres not many hills....The FXD will try to dislocate your elbows
3. Hard to get the price negotiated, but you should be able to get forwards for free, make em throw in a new helmet....stick to your guns

I'm 6'7 but a mere 200 pounds for comparison.

1. I ride the stock seat but that's just me. Most guys feel the need to change to a more comfortable one. A Sundowner might be a good choice, but it will scoot you forward an inch or so. Still pretty comfy seat for the price and forwards won't make that inch a problem.

2. Power should not be an issue, but get a fuel management system on it and pump more fuel into it. The new bikes already run lean as is and I can't see the high altitude helping matters much. You'll enjoy the increase in response also.

3.MSRP is ok, but I paid less OTD last January for my 07 FXD with a 2 year extended warranty and tax/tags etc and I did'nt even haggle with them. If you can get forwards thrown in and installed then yeah, I would say it would be a decent price.

2. The bike will run richer at high altitude (less air), which is why you jet a carb leaner at high elevations. The EFI should compensate nicely on a stock bike.

3. The closer you get to summer, the more likely you are to find a dealer that will sell below MSRP. I got my '07 WG for $1000 under msrp with setup and frieght waved. Good luck.

I am 6'2" 255# and it pulls me around like a rag doll. My girl is 125# and I don't even notice her on the back, I call her my sack of groceries. My scoot is an '08 super glide custom and with windshield, sissy set up, forward controls, smoked turn lenses and smoked l.e.d. tail light it was $15,320 out the door. The stock seat is terrible, I have a Mustang on the way from ACM but it seems they are super slow to ship.

6' 4", 220 pounds, 2007 FXD

The thing pulls like a train. I have no plans to do anything to the engine. Plenty of torque, even here in the hills of North Carolina.

I did swap out the stock seat for a LePera. Big difference. I'm perfectly comfortable.
