Default Test Rode the FXDF today

The mobile test ride trailer was in town today so I took out the FXDF that they had. Very nice bike and somewhere down the road I may get one..

The only thing I didn't like was excessive heat coming off of the pipes. Any of you FXDF owners experience this and if so what did you do about it?

I don't find my pipes to give off excessive heat at all. The one you rode might not have been mapped preoperly.

They are OK as long as the bike is moving. I got my Fat Bob two days ago. I was sitting in a traffic jam yesterday and the pipes got so hot they burned a hole straight through in my trousers. My leg is red and sore. If you use the rear brake to hold the bike like I was always taught this will happen, especially if you've got short legs. I will have learn to hold it on the front brake instead.

Don't let it stop you buying a Fat Bob. You just need to be a bit careful, that's all.

you know, i wonder if h-d screwed up tuning this bike due to no catalytic converters and they were trying to make up for them.

it's the only model i keep hearing people commenting on the heat off the pipes. mine runs pretty darn hot too in fact and i've got a 103"

i've melted my shoe on the heat shield

They all run lean from the factory...

You should get it tuned anyways...

Mine does get a little warm as well. Mostly on stop and go in town. On the open road it is not too bad. You learn how to compensate when you have short legs. I have had mine tuned and it is still warm.

Mine got so hot they glowed orange. Changed to V&H big shots and it reduced a lot. Added powercommander and good tuning and its waayy cooler. Even in traffic.

I've got about 200 miles on mine and the only real heat I notice is like you said, Steve, when sitting at a light with foot on rear brake (forward controls). I think the heat mostly comes from the slots in the "Tommy Gun" exhaust, which my leg is right over in that position. I'm waiting on V&H BR 2 into 1's and a SERT at the dealer which will hopefully take care of that.
