...before anybody flames me....I'm not saying that monkeys are stupid. I wouldn't want to tick off any monkeys. I'm sure that they are just as intelligent as the next species. Heck, I've heard that if you put a few of them in a room with a few typewriters, you'll eventually get some Shakespeare. Now cavemen, on the other hand...
Glad you clarified this, at first I thought you were saying all us monkies were stupid
I know there are a lot of high rollers in Vegas, but, paying $1300. for a $600. job would be ridiculous. I hope like hell I never break down out there.
I thoughtthe price I paida dealer(alittle over$700)to install my apes was steep...but, I hadstainless steel throtle and clutch cables and brake lines installed (which could've increased the cost by about $150 or so). I probably could've done it myself, but my time was at a premium given I'd just come off of about 6 months overseas deployment. I guess I got a real bargain by comparison!!
$1300 is insane (I have mini apes on a SG). Like others have said, the bars are around $50 (or less on this forum with so many Street Bobs around with different bars), andyou only have to change out acouple ofcables. An indy shop would probably do it for a couple of hours labor if you don't want to do it yourself (or if you don't have any monkeys in your area that work for beer). Those 1 1/4" kits internally wired would be nice, but they cause problems with the FXD speedo mount.
I paid $1800at my 1000mi service plus I got installed;streetslammer drag bars, braided cables, new mirrors with longer stems,SEII slipons, SE filter and a map.
Go with aftermarket parts,Do it yourself and if you run into ANY problems just ask this forum. We have all learned the hard way but it does pay to do it yourself. If you go to your local indy DO NOT TELL HIM WHAT THE DEALER WANTED. I just gave away all my new takeoffs and I think you should look around and maybe someone will sell for cheap or donate to you...
