Default 2004 Dyna Low Rider - Need Advice

I bought my first Harley last fall - 2005 Sportster 1200 XLR. The dealer told me it would be less than 6 months before I would be looking to upgrade. So, I stopped by a dealer near my office and they have a brand new 2004 Dyna Low Rider. They are asking $14,800 for it. Is it normal for a dealer to have a new 2004 model still in their inventory? I asked the salesman about it and he mentioned something about it getting "lost in the shuffle". Is this guy bullsh-ting me? IS this a good price? It's a nice looking bike. I would appreciate any opinions on this deal.

thanks,

Jim

Here's the question....what's the MSRP on a brand new 06 low rider? Seems to me that's pretty high for an 04...but I could be wrong. Either way, the new 06s have been upgraded dramatically...and if you can get an 06 for close to that, you might want to do that. If they hadn't changed the 06s so much, it might be a different story.

Sounds high to me for an 04 (even new), given the glut of bikes Harley had in the 05 model year. They're still trying to sell a bunch of new 05 bikes, so 04's should be a bargain (IMHO). You might try low-balling his offer and see if he bites.

That's low for a NEW '04, or it would be here anyway. My dealer would be selling a used '04 with 5000 miles for at least $16,900. Consequently, that's $1000 less than new. And, no, they don't budge. They'll let you walk out b/c there is someone right behind you willing to pay what they want. I have learned other ways to make that money back!

Is that Canadian money? Sorry man..that seems really high. MSRP on an 06 low rider is $15,620. Figure 1000-1500 dealer mark up (because we know that very few of us actually pay MSRP), and you're looking at somewhere around 17,000 for brand new 06. $16,900 for an 04 with 5K miles?...I don't even think the stealers in NJ would try that. Of course I could be wrong.

Seems like we went thorugh this in another post, but here's my take: New or not, that price for a 2-year (soon to be 3-year) old cycle is high. Look and the MoCo website, MSRP for a 2006 Lowrider is $15,600.00 in black, $15,900.00 in colors. Look for another dealer or another deal? IMO, $800.00 more will get you a brand new current model if black, a few more bucks in colors, that's not a good deal.

Take a look at John O's "Red Flag" post in this forum to see what other dealers are asking for Lowriders that are even older than the 2004 you're being shown.

Dynamite, H-D of Greenville (if that's who you mean as your dealer) has a couple new Low Riders on the floor right now tagged at $16+. That's a little high, but not terrible considering security systems, shipping and one of them is a two-tone. Two or three years ago, they would have been marked at $18,990. With Spartanburg Harley and Timms in Anderson both having new stores and actually having bikes in stock that they are selling at MSRP or less, I think Greenville has started to see the light on pricing. Timms was advertising new 1200C Sportsters at $1000 off MSRP 2 weeks ago and had them in stock. A couple years ago Greenville was marking everything up $2-3k and getting it...they would knock off $1k if they thought you were ready to write a check. They had the bikes in stock and the other two dealers didn't; you could walk into the Greenville store and ride a new bike home the same day. A lot of people were willing to pay a premium for that convenience, and there's nothing wrong with that, capitalism at it's finest. I'm not defending H-Dog, just saying they have gotten a little more realistic in their pricing based on the competition. I bought two bikes from Greenville but probably won't do it again, I'll go to Spartanburg or Anderson next time.

A dealer near me has 4 new 2004 models on the floor. One is a custom Dyna Lowrider EFI w/ Security Custom #1 Paint Set $3301.80 in Accessories. they are asking $15,995 for it.
The other 3 are V-Rods.
Hope this helps with your decision.
