Has anyone had a problem with a front brake light switch wanting to stay on all the time. I can loosen the handlebar clamp and move the master cylinder and lever, the tailight go out but when I tighten the clamp the light come back on. Also sometimes I can push the lever all the way forward and the light will go out. Any help would be great. Oh I forgot the bike is a 06 Superglide.
I have a '99 FXDX and I had a similar issue in that I had to push the brake lever forward to get the brake light to go out. I ended up getting the rebuild kit for the master cylinder and that fixed the problem. I think the spring in the brake accuator was weak after eight years. I had previously replaced my front brake switch when it failed to light up the rear brake light.
There's a clip thingy that goes between your lever and the switch on the master cylinder and you either broke it or lost it or it could be pushed to the side..... I would carefully take it apart and see if it's broke or missing, if it's just pushed over some your in luck... I found the easiest way to put it back together without problems is to depress the lever a little while putting it together!
Not sure if you can just replace the plunger and booty or not.... But when I broke mine on my sportster I just cut a small piece off a dead credit card and glued it to the lever where it hits the switch.... works great and it's still working 3 years later
