Default My levers floppy :(

05 Road King. Non ABS. Notice a couple of days ago that when I started her up in the morning that my brake light was flickering. Reached up and gave the brake lever a tap and it stopped. Then yesterday I noticed that as I'm riding into work, I can see in my rearview that my brake light is on. I reach up and push the brake lever forward. Let go and it goes back to engaging the brake light.

Got home and this is what I've got. What's going on here? Is my master cylinder shot? No leaks or damp spots on any of my lines.

Sorry, but you know someone had to do this to cure your “floppy lever”.

You can get a new pin and bushing that holds the lever in place. Also loosen the master cylinder bolts and the switch housing bolts and make sure they’re pushed together as much as possible. Ever replaced the grips? Some people brake off the end of the brake light switch when putting the lever back on.

There is a bushing (45423-96) at the pivot pin and also a repair kit for the master cylinder (45072-96D). Not sure if just replacing the pivot pin bushing would tighten up the lever enough to stop the switch from making a connection that is causing the brake light to activate.

Try bleeding the brake line.

Mine did that. The spring in the master cylinder gets weak. Also the piston can get sticky in the bore. Rebuild and it's been good.

Exact same symptoms, spring in Mcyl gets weak. Buy a rebuild kit and use the opportunity to flush all your lines with fresh brake fluid.
