Default Need help with seat height.

I,m picking up my first Harley next weekend. Its a 97 Dyna Wide Glide. Went and looked at it and couldn't ride it cause it was **** pouring rain. Can you tell me the seat height on a wide glide with 11" progressive shocks? I'm about 5'6 so I may have to lower it a little more. Thanks in advance.

I think stock shocks are 12 or 12.5 so just drop an inch off the stock hieght listed on hd.com

should be close enough

you could also change the seat if you need more lowering....

I wouldnt lower any more with shocks. You might end up having to get a seat with less padding (LaPera Barebones or Silhouette) Or a Corbin Hollywood Solo. If you go any shorter with shocks you might run into clearance problems with your rear tire hitting the fender. Just my opinion.

Nice....... Same paint as my '96!
Did you sit on it too see if your feet could lay flat on the ground? I recently installed a Corbin Hollywood Solo, and it does lower you some over the factory 2-up seat, but it also moves you back, so it may cause reach problems for a 5'6" rider.
I believe a lot of seat manufacturers including Corbin, make seats that will lower you and move you closer to the bars and pegs a bit.

Cheers... Ben.

Yes I did sit on it was almost flat footed. Would like to be flat footed all the way. Didn,t think much of the forwards. Are the controlls any further away then a factory Street Glide? Thats what my brother has and I,ve been riding it some lately. The bike im getting is like 2hrs away so it will be this weekend before i can ride it.

OK so you're 5'6" and you bought the tallest Dyna made not that big of a problem but....
From the picture it looks like it may already have the shorter shocks on it, measure your shocks eye to eye if they're 11" that's as low as you can go if not get the Progressive 412s in that size. Then you will need a thinner seat look at LePera that will drop you at least an inch and a half from where you are now.In retrospect I would change the seat first it will get you lower without an impact on handling.

It has 11" progressive shocks on rear. My last bike was a 98 Honda Shadow ACE. Which had a seat height of 27.6". The 97 Dyna Glide shows a seat height of 27.5 to 28.5. I,m not for shure what the stock shocks are.I think some one on here said 12-12.5". I was flatfooted on my Shadow, but barely. Hope this bike works out for me it. Its sharp as hell. I'll get some more pics on here when I get to see it this weekend.

I agreed . I had progressive 412s on my bike , I also cut my 2 up Sundowner seat down to get flatfooted to make it easy to ride .
