It looks like they ran yours 15 times unless the renamed a run/file or something.
Exactly...

This all sounds like a nightmare.I justbolted on a newset of pipes and I'm just going to run it. I'm not remapping or changing fuel management. Leaving it stock.I've got about 100 miles on since the mod and at first she backfired but now seems to have straightened herself out and she runs strong. I've got very minor decel popping but it's a harley dammit! Not a BMW!

If I notice significant bluing in the new pipes in the near future, then maybe I'll think about tweaking it.

you know what they say "if it works, fix it till it don't!" LOL!

I really wish you guys the best of luck.

Damn, after reading this I'm glad I have a carb.

The local Indy. by me charges $500 do tune the SERT compared to $300 for the PCIII because it takes almost twice as long to tune. For a carb they charge $65/hour and it generally takes around an hour.

It looks like they ran yours 15 times unless the renamed a run/file or something.
When I had mine on the dyno to tune the carba couple years ago it was run 8 times.

Good luck.
In know that in theory, you can get MUCH better with a proper EFI setup. In practice, it sure seems like you can get to 98% or better a heckuva lot easier with a carb!

And as to cold starts? Imagine my surprise when I found out the damned ECM forgets it's not a toaster every frikkin time I shut it off. WTF?

Brought mine back two times (three trips total)to totally eliminate the decel backfire and driveability probs. Was a pain but well worth it as it runs better than ever now. I don't know why it should take so many times but apparently there is a bit of an art to it. My final dyno run was done by the service manager personally; he was recommended by folks on other boards. I just wish he would have done it himself the first time.

Happy now.

Very important to research tuners and ask around, some are pretty new at it, others not always familiar with different fuel management systems.

Sounds like a PCIII dealer to me! That pricing is just plain ridiculous! All the places around here charge a flat fee regardless how long, SERT potentially only takes longer because a) tuner doesn't know what he's doing, +/or b) it allows for more settings to be tweaked resulting, theoretically, in a better tune. But yes, there is a bit of an art to it, experience plays a very important role, and good equipment helps, too!

Just checked yesterday with the best tuner in the area (at a local HD dealer!) who I got GREAT results from the FIRST time, and they're still only charging a $156 flat fee. But there are 3 tuners within 5 miles, another 5 within 12 miles, so there's plenty of competition.

You guys are getting screwed, paying thru the nose and getting crappy results. I truly feel for you!

I paid $295 and the dude who performed the tune has been doing it, at the same shop (HD), for five years. I would have thought it would have worked better for me than it does, given his experience.

I agree that it appears more and more to me that SERT tuning may be more art than science. However, I thought that coupled with the Dyno technology, it would be a cut and dry process with no further tweaking necessary. Looks like I thought wrong...

Yes the PCIII is what they sell. Across town is the HD dealer who will only dyno SERT and won't touch PCIII.
I have no idea how far away the next closest dyno is, nextHD dealer is30 miles to the southso not much competition where I live.

I have had my pipes on and off about 3 times I think I am going to get new gaskets for the exhaust. That could be a problem with the decel pop on mine. HD_Sob I hope they fix the problem on Friday. They havea demo truck out there on Friday might have to make a trip and see if I can get a scoot on the new Crossbones.

mine took 4 tunes. Three at one tuner and I gave up. One at a second tuner.

It's very hard tell when its right unless you get a second opinion.

They said my pipes are prone to popping on decel. They do it more when the air is cold.

I was charged $40 for the second opinion and then since they said it need to be redone they applied the $40 against the new tune.

yes, I lost the money with the first guy.

I ended up with 85.5/94.5

2006 wide glide, V&H Big Shot Staggered with quite baffles, Woods TW6 Cams, Screaming Eagle Air Filter, SE Race Tuner. 95 Big Bore Kit.

Mine is just the opposite: pops more in 90+ degree weather. That was before the Dyno. Hasn't warmed up enuff yet to see what its gonna do, but I expect the worse as temps rise.

Meanwhile, I've canceled my do-over that was scheduled for tomorrow. I want to evaluate it some more and get additional opinions/info before I give it back to them...
