Hey guys, I have a question out of curiostiy. Hopefully some of you are fimiliar with the Horse Backstreet Choppers mag. and/or what I am talking about. The most recent issue features a sporty that I noticed had the (pardon the lack of proper terminology) head breathers re-routed, instead of into the carb area, into a filter, small one, above the carb. Now, to me this makes sense and I can somewhat understand the purpose, if anything else to keep oil from being sucked into the carb.
So my question is, what are the bennies of it, other than what I mentioned, and has anyone tried this? Any suggestions and/or thoughts on this would be great. Thanks alotin advance to all.
Benefits of it are that it eliminates that infamous blow-by oil soaking the filter vs. being suckced into the carb. The tubing and filter being above the carb serves the purpose of venting while letting gravity keep oil from blowing out but rather having anyoil mist drain back into the heads. Those are pretty cool setups, occassionaly you can findkit with what you need but most make their own setup to fit the type filter/backing plate that they're using.
I thought about doing it myselfbut since changing syn. oil brands the blow by on my ness big sucker has stopped and I don't really need it. If you do a search for "fixing oil blow by" or "crankcase venting" I'm sure it will turn up something as a number of Dyna/Sportster folks on HDF have done it and could tell you the parts used.
