I've had my sportster for 14 years and expect to have this one just as long. So how I expected it to age was a big part of the decision. With the sportster I left it set for the last six years and the chrome shows it. Live and learn, I won't make that mistake again, but it got me thinking about the fact that after 10-15 years a bikes going to show it's age.
Ive had my FB for just over two weeks now, and I love it more and more. At first, I honestly felt that I was settling a little in getting the bike, but now just as you say it just fits. I get tons of compliments, and "what the hell kind of bike is that?" questions. Im always more than happy to answer questions of dumbfounded onlookers...keep em coming I say.
Yeah I look at it and think "HD will do something to it in a year or two to screw it up". Glad I can buy a 96" 6 speed and not be the first-year Guinea Pig.
Gilly
I think I get what you're saying about it's Ugly Beauty (a composition by Thelonious Monk that I love). I think's it's handsome in a masculine taking care of business way. I love the way it looks, and rides and sounds (stock) and it gets under your skin more and more as you get to know it.
well said amigo...
spark said the same about it being masculine (& macho).
got mine early Nov & lov'n it.
I kept getting a bunch of crap from the guys I know because they didn't like the headlights. They see it now and say they actually like it. Whether they're lying or telling the truth...it doesn't matter. It's all mine!
Now for the most frequent question of the squad. What color you went for? They all look pretty good. But like some more than others. I went with my color for the denim look and something other than black like everyone else.
Wow, I've had my bike for six months now! Getting ready to take her in for her 5,000 mile service and maybe some mods. I was at the dealer yesterday running down the list of things I was thinking about doing. $5,000 later I finally figured out I was going to have to do a little at a time. LOL
I LOVE my bike!!!!! I don't see any others around like it at all. I ALWAYS get looks when I ride into an event and people always come up and ask me questions about it that I am more than happy to answer. I haven't run into anyone who doesn't like it yet. I even get looks from the sport bikers! LOL It was the masculine look that appealed to me as well. I described it as "tough" when I first saw it. I love how it sounds now that I have my 2" Rush slip ons and am looking foward to being able to bore it out to 103 and make it even badder! It has that nice deep Harley rumble that brings a spontaneous smile to my face everytime I hear it.
I've never heard anyone describe it as "ugly", but I definitely get your meaning. All I know is that it is an awesome looking and riding bike and Harley would be stupid to change a thing on it (except to offer it with a round rear fender! LOL)
Now that the weather's warming up, I'm getting impatient to get mine! I never thought it was ugly... tough, brutish, maybe, and even a touch Euro, though that's not why I got it. I guess it's the combination of all of those things.
I originally ordered a blue one, but the more I saw them and looked at pictures, the more I felt that this bike needs to be black. Went for the Vivid because I do want to add a touch of blue to it... probably a tank stripe a la the police paint scheme.
I like the blue and the denim black, too. Pewter and red don't do it for me on this bike.
