Seems like I've read before on here that these Evo's are known for slow leaks around the primary. I noticed a month or so ago that there are a few drops of oil on the garage floor after I ride. I got down there and noticed a drip from around the primary drain plug area. It's not alot at all, but I'm guessing it's 3-5 drops of oil after a ride. It seems like it takes a few hours or more for the drops to happen.
So anyway, is this a big deal or just kinda how it goes? I haven't checked the primary oil yet, but I will and make sure it's always where it needs to be. Is this most likely a gasket or something more? Should I have it looked at and fixed for what I'm sure would be several hundred dollars (is anything cheap?) or just live with it?
And before anyone asks, no I still haven't taken the MSF. GET OFF MY BACK!!! Just kiddin... I am enrolled for an 8.5 hour intermediate class in mid-April. This is the first year Illinois has offered an intermediate class (between the beginner class and expert.)
My brother and I both ride '92s and they both leak something a little bit. Don't let it bother you, it won't ever leak enough to cause problems. Just keep an eye on it- it's probably an o-ring or gasket that can be changed out next time you service it.
It's a HD, it will leak sooner or later. If it's around the primary drain plug could just be the o-ring on the plug.
Yeah, that's what I figured (it would leak sooner or later.) I don't know for sure if it is coming from the drain plug, but it drips to the ground from that area. But that's the lowest part of the primary cover too, so it COULD be slowly leaking from somewhere else and dripipng from there.
I dunno. I'm not gonna worry about it. It's not real consistent (I rode yesterday and don't see any drops?) and I'm just gonna blow it off for now. I'll go buy some primary oil today and make sure it's up where it needs to be (I've never done that but it seems super simple.)
Could be coming from the seal on the mainshaft. The oil will run down the shaft till it gets to the inner primary cover then run down it to the outer primary and drip at the drain plug.
