Do DYNA's made before 2006 suck???

An interesting thread, some of the comments are BS. If you never had both, how can you really compare. I had a 07 FXDB that I bought on new, I loved it, it was great. I got a wild hair and tradeded it in on a sport bike. 14 months cured me, and now I am on a 03 FXDL.
There are differences, but suck? No, far from it. The 06 and up has the 6 speed and the 07 up has a larger motor. What is the impact? Slightly more horsepower and a lower RPM cruise range. If you have the FI model you have better gas mileage. As far as comfort and riding? Little to no difference.
My preference is the 07, I got used to that 6th gear and the longer cruise range due to fuel injection. Is it worth enough to me to throw money at it for a newer one? Nope.

i have an 03 lowrider. first ever harley, never owned a newer one, but as i only bought it a year ago, i can tell you i did my research on what to buy and which model to go for.
in all honesty i wanted a brand new streetbob to customise as i wished. the pros were the 6th gear which i knew would increase economy, the flat black engine casings, and the mini apes.
i finally found the finance for the bike and worked out the repayments, then went to get an insurance quote, and just becase the bike was a 1594cc, it would cost me £2400 for a year, whereas previous quotes for a 1450cc dyna would only stand me at £540 per year fully comp cover.
this pretty much sealed the deal and i was in the market now for a used pre 2006 model.
i came across a 2003 lowrider, which was garishly painted but had many advantages over a new model, the previous owner had installed forward controls, stage 1, it had the 2 up seat that i was looking for, and was clean with good service history.
overall id say im happy with the decision i was forced into, and i know people say the 1594cc motors are better, but i really couldnt care less now i have my harley that ive customised to almost exactly how i want it.
pre 2006 dynas do not suck, go with what you can afford and ride it hard, you wont be disappointed.
also i must say that over here in the UK, the depreciation on harleys barley exists. the price for a 1996 dyna in good condition sticks up there with the 2008 models that people have just traded in for the brand new bike. I think this is partly due to how exclusive harley davidson is in the UK, compared to the USA of course. I just feel lucky to own one.
