Default another newbie

Just picked up a Pacific Blue07 FXD a few weeks ago. Not new to bikes but this is my first HD and I absolutely love it. Never had a bike with such character or as fun to ride. I live in Ct. so it's still cold up here but I'm getting short rides in when the weather permits. I'll post some pics when I get the first wave of chrome on, already put on the console cover. Here are my initial observations/experiences:

[ul][*]Being in NewEngland I bought the heated jacket and gloves but don't really need them with the detachable windshield. May get a full face for cold weather riding though, my face gets real cold.[*]Just put gass in for the first time and found that not all gas station pumps will work with the vapor recovery gizmo. My gas light when on at 1/4 tank and she only took 3 and a half gallons??[*]I'm taking it slow while I get used to it, things are coming along nicely but I still need practice taking off on a hill and taking a turn at the same time. Overall I feel very comfortable on the bike although I will probably take a safety course when it warms up.[*]Looking at changing out all fluids soon, almost 1K on her. I'll stick with the HD dino 20W50 until I hit 3K and will switch to the Mobil1 syn. Hopefully they will have it locally. K&N filter, Mobil1 for the primary and the Redline in the trani. From what I've read this is the most popular combo?[*]Initial mods will be battery cover and band, electrical panel and coil cover, chrome upper and lower belt guards, derby cover. She already has SE exhaust, two up seat, sissy bar and luggage rack.[/ul]
Just checkin in for the first time, happy Easter and safe riding.
Tim

Welcome to the world of HD, I usually get my Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 synthetic at autozone. You could go as early as 1500 miles for the change over. As far as hills go, practice holding the footbrake (rear) down and learning wherethe friction point is for the clutch, the as the bike moves without stalling gently releasethe brake. Taking the riders safety course should go over this with you. If your roads have been salted for snow or ice, the bike is picking this up and it needs to washed off. Enjoy your new ride . Be safe and good luck.

Welcome from sunny, warm, upstate NY. Well, not warm, but sunny for the moment. Watch out for that salt dust and sand. Ride safe.
