I was thinking voltage regulator also. I had the same problem as this with mine and turned out to be the voltage regulator. I would not think the plugs would go out like that after it ran ok for a while.
Loosen up the fuel cap and see if the bike will run a little longer, check the vent hole in the gas cap to see if it is plugged. I'm also leaning towards the trash/water in the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carb. pull the bowl off and clean it out and check that vacuum hose from the carb back to the petcock. the fact that you got some fresh gas and it acted up after restarting, did you turn the petcock back on after restarting the bike? Habits have to be reinforced after not being in them for a while.

06 Super G has a point, If your vacuum hose to your petcock has a leak in it( And I have seen that and also a hole in the diafram) The bike gets no gas at all.
Sound like what happened to me in Wyoming last year on my way home from Sturgis...
Vaccuum hose to the fuel petcock came off behind the carb...
After a minute or two it would restart but would not go more than the 300 yards... Then I quit twisting the throttle and I could get it to stay running as long as I was very easy on the throttle....
