Fork stem lubrication
Hello everybody. I have a couple questions for you guys, hopefully not stupid questions. I searched the forum and couldnt find a thread and the manual doesnt say anything about it (I think).
I just had my triple trees powdercoated and I want to know if I need to lubricate my fork stem before re-installing? I noticed when I took the trees off the stem had a slight lubricant on it.
And what about the bearings? When I removed them, I just set them to the side, I was thinking I could just put them back on the bike without repacking and greasing them b/cnothing really changed with them.
Thanks

Since you give no age on the bike, and it is good practice to allways clean and repack any bearings, I will suggest that. Unless you have been very hygenic in the handling of the bearings I would not just put them back in. When cleaning, do NOT spin them with an air gun, that will cause scoring of the bearings leading to failure in the future. These bearings are under a lot of stress and must be in good shape. The bad failure mode is a lockup of the trees, freezing the steering. Not good if moving fast.
I appreciate the advice. Yeah I forgot about putting in the year, its a 2006 with only 15oo miles on it. I keep it extremely clean, but I guesssI can clean them up for good measure
