do it all (multi tool), zip ties, electrical tape, go around your bike and find the most common rachet toss that in there, (most of the bolts and nuts are star (hex heads) toss that in there), small rachet, screwdriver philips/flathead, and a knife... then wrap it all up in a zip lock bag.

ok all joking aside I carry 1 of each screwdriver, plug socket, elect tape, a few zip ties, a small tire repair kit, a cresent wrench, a miltitool, and a rag to wipe my hands off..I thought you guys just had tool bags just to make us not feel so bad???
RE: i have a fork bag i want to use as a tool kit, what basic tools should i carry with me?
I carry those tools needed to do a 10K mile inspection. The HD multi bit screwdriver is useful
as it has most of the torx bits needed.
Do the 10K inspection on your bike and you will see which tools you need.
I also carry a closed end wrench whose ends fit the front and rear axle nuts (made it with my welder).
I carry a tire repair kit and a battery powered tire pump.
Zip ties, electrical tape, pencil, multi-tool (pliers/knife/etc) and a small length of electrical wire.
Some miscellaneous nuts and bolts (1/4" 20 tpi bolt for the seat, bolt with lock nut that could
be used as the pivot for the brake or clutch levers - in case you lost a "c" clip), etc.
FWIW: my tire pump is about the size of your fist and costs about $10. Get one of the inexpensive
battery powered tire pumps from WalMart and strip off the outer plastic protective housing.
The pump works fine without the case, but you have to watch your fingers so you don't get hurt.
Plug it into the tail for your battery trickle charger.
