started with a pair ofPS 412 11" but changed to Ăhlins HD-218 and they are a different "ballgame" compared to the 412, expensive as hell but worth it..
Works performance shocks are bad ars! For guys on the heavy side the Steel Trackers are smooth riding. I have them with ARS & DRS. Thats just extra spring and a quick setting tab onthem.
Anyhow, here is a photo for your inspection. There is no lowering on the front end done on his bike at the time of these photos he took in Italy. I am not suggesting anything other to look at the ride height and you can decide for yourself. I thought the bike was too low as the hard parts scraped around corners more easily. He is going to put a race tech w/lowering on his front end in the future.
Forgot, the shock length is 11 1/2" the point of the post

RE: Shocks for Street Bob?
Have you see nthe new Progressive 430s (I believe that's it). They are sweet. Unfortunately, I want a 11.5 and they only offer them in 11 now. I may end up going with 440s when the $$$ comes around for me .
i had/have/will have again the 412's. the first set, almost exactly a year in....blew out. i called progressive, gave the serial number when asked and they said "yup....we'll send you some new ones". they knew there was a problem. second set, one year later to the WEEK, blew out again. called progressive, "said no problem, we are aware of the problem, seems there is a problem with a certain weight and would you like to upgrade to the 430's?" " sure...wait..i'm not a fat guy...only 175!!" "yeah, that's the weight we've seen...bla bla I could give you the 412's again but we can't be sure you won't have the problem again"....ok, i'm refraining from getting into an argument about why they are still selling them if they still have the problem but, hey, i'm getting an upgrade...right!
no
so i get the 430's....ROCK FREAKIN HARD. i have them dialled all the way soft and they are like i have a hardtail. so i call them thinking they sent me the heavy duty ones but we confirm that wasn't the case. he goes on about them being gas charged and better valving and how they clearly show a better ride on the machines...bla..bla. he goes on about sag (which, since i recently bought a baller dirt bike and am now aware of) and i tell him that they don't drop at ALL when sit.
the guy convinces me that maybe they need to be broken in to keep them for a month or so. in the process of him ticking away, i kinda ask him about the 412's and after some confusion in him not listening to my questions and answereing some other conversation, i finally get it out of him that they have indeed fixed the problem and aren't forcing the 430's on me........"so........can i go back to the 412's??...they won't have the problem again right...?" "no" "then i'll switch back!!"
having said all that. i would really like a set of the works (my buddy has them on his 05 and they are quite nice) and the Ohlin's...well...they don't get much better. but while money isn't an issue, there are other things i'd like to spend the money on and i don't have any complaints about the 412's.
of course, i might change my mind if i rode the other two.
