My 97 Dyna will quit on a ride. You will lose power with the bike still running and not be able to get anything out of the throttle. It will then not start again until it completely cools down. I could then make about another 15-20 miles before encountering the problem again. Voltage Reg? Ignition? Any help is appreciated. Just want to ride and can't buy a new bike.
are you getting spark when it will not start? did you do a fuel line check? has the bike been sitting... the more info the better... honestly, and i know i know i say this every time... but with the carborated motors... next time you fire it up... put some sea foam in the gas... it will clean out your carb, help get those jets open... then you just have to worry about ignitingthe gas and getting it there... let me know... we will get u back on the road brother!
It can only be fuel or spark. Coil is good bet but you could have a bad regulator as well. Thereis some test info in tech section but it sounds like the problem only occurs once its hot you would have to do test then
That was my thought too about the gas cap not venting causing a vacuum lock on the fuel flow to the carb, when you start losing power again loosen up the fuel cap to let some air in, I've seen a older car do the same thing. The next thing to check would be the coil, breaking down after it gets hot. Good luck. Let us know what you find.
Thanks to all for the info and advice.... problem only occurs when it's hot and I checked fuel avenue and tank venting and don't believe it to be problem. I think my best bet it to get it to fail again and check my ignition/coil and regulator. Next remotely nice day I get I'm headin out.........
