But is there some doubt over the safety of paypal over there cause it gives protection over here if the buyer has a proven track record ?
From the merchant end, PayPal protection is only available in countries where they support PayPal verified addresses. Even then, it's pretty easy for a customer to dispute the transaction and get a refund ending up with both the merchandise and their money. Scam artists know how to work the system and, as usual, ruin it for everyone. Central Europe has the worst rep for this sort of thing, but for many small-time US merchants it's too difficult to keep up with sorting out the good from the bad. It only takes a couple of losses to wipe out a month's profit. So the easiest route is to say "US Only."
Just make damn sure you get the money (10 day hold) and let them arrange for shipping and duties. I almost sold a '68 Camaro to one of those scammers years ago. My bank talked me out of it.
My friend almost lost a Viper to an oversees scammer. Remember ourlwas don't apply oversees. If it's a vehicle sale be VERY careful. Every time I trust someone they screw me.
Yeah sadly the idea of anywhere outside america still being in the dark ages and full of comies still seems to persist.....unless of course they need us to go fight with them and before you get on your high horses over that I have served along side your guys several times even took a bullet and spent a few weeks experencing iraq hospitality trying to save them.
On the serious front there this is big problems with italian customs for some reason and people wont even ship from the UK to italy. Perosnaly I always look at the buyers feedback and what type of stuff they have bought. If the guys been buying halrey parts that shows he is building a bike why wouldnt you belive he is genuine ? I currently have a 100% feedback rating and a score of 160 why would I screw that up buying something form the states I coulndt get here. The over trick is to get a mate in the states to bid on stuff then have him ship to you as a gift.
Sadly we live in Gordon Brown's rip-off Britain. I went down to my local dealer on Saturday to price up a pair of saddlebags. The price was ÂŁ633. In the US the list price is $599. With the dollar at almost excactly $2 to ÂŁ1 at the moment HD dealers over here are charging more than double the price. Now I know why you guys call them stealers.
I've bought quite a few things off eBay from the US and have saved myself hundreds of pounds. I've not had a problem. If they don't want to sell it to me then I find somebody who will.
I did have a problem a couple of weeks ago when I sold a couple of chrome reservoir covers to anouther guy in the UK and some theiving postal worker broke into the packet and nicked one. It's a very common problem here in the UK, you just can't trust the Post Office any more. It happens all the time.
I have bought many items from the USA and its always been good. As said before the prices are half what they are here in rip off Britain. I,d rather give my hard earned to you guys than to whoever it is ripping (trying to) us off be it Dealers or Government.
I've never dealt with private sellers in the states but there's some really reliable e-bay shops.spent hundreds without any problems.hd-part, eastern performance cycles, robs cycles to name a few. i personally won't buy anything more from the dealers here ,even if your unlucky enough to get hit by customs its still a damn sight cheaper to buy in the good ole US of A
