Just got my bike back last weekend having the same thing done. While you are going thru it you should check on putting a 180 tire on the rear. On the front, I used my hub and had it laced into a 21" rim with 21" spokes. I tmakes the bike drive and handle some much better. Hope it works out for you.
So I went in to the custom bike shop up the street yesterday and we decided to use my hub and lace up a 21" wheel with polished stainless spokes. I am also going to be upgrading the rear spokes. Then to finish it off I am powdercoating the rim and hubs F/R in a gloss black. Should look really nice on my bike. The down time is about a week or so. Not a problem though, the bike is just the weekend cruiser.

It's already done man, haha. I have less than a 100 miles on the ride and a ton of mods. I am gonna post pics when I get it back from the shop so stay tuned!!!! The list includes,.......new tripple trees, chubby drag bars, Kuryakyn relocate fromt blinker kit, smoked lenses, Kuryakyn smoked LED low pro rear light, Kuryakyn lay down plate frame,180 wide tire kit, Progressive rear lowering shocks, V&H short staggered, V&H fuel pack, Scream Eagle hi-flow filter, and high way pegs.
Ok so bare with me, I went in to the shop today and the guy is having some issues with the spokes working in the front and rear. I think he finally got the spokes working in the back but is now having the same issue with lacing my hub to a 21" rim. I powdercoated both wheels and hubs, then upgraded to stainless spokes. Anyone know what spoke for sure will work with an 08 or a part number?
For what ever reason I got a guy at the shop saying the 08 is diffrent then all other years and he thinks the flange on the hub might be larger. Finding the right lenght spokes in stainless is where the mess is. The guy that is truing the wheel said he is having the problem after it was laced from what it sounds like. When I drove by the shop last I remember seeing the wheel laced. This project is turning in to almost 2 weeks. Someone.....anyone.......help??
IT does look sick! not sure how i understand that it rides so much better when it is less surface area in contact with the road and a longer rotation... you actually loose a bit of performance in the turns going to a 21 from a 19... if by rides so much better you are refering to when that big wheel is chopping down the road i would completely agree with that...
for spokes... you have several options... http://www.harleyspoke.com/Product.htm
is the best... hands down... get stainless so you dont have to worry about them getting nasty... ALSO... while you have the front wheel off and torn down, do 2 things... Polish your rotors (you are going to have a big wheel there it will show alot of your rotor, it is cheap and easy to polish it, but alsoput on some Lyndal GOld brake pads... no more brake dust... trust me on a 21 front wheel you dont want to have to clean brake dust...(i have to help my brother do his all the time)
