So I was thinking about upgrading my front rim to a 21" chrome spoke on my street bob. Anyone here know where I can get the best price for a front rim? I am looking for something to match the rear factory rim. Also what's your opinion on a mod such as this? Good idea or not, thanks for the help.
Several on here have done this mod and each have learned....you can't buy the wheel for the mid-glide front end. You have to build or have a wheel built, or change your front end to a wide glide, or use a narrow glide wheel and figure out the axle and caliper spacers.
You can get one for $150 bucks brand new on eBay like I did, but....
The hub is chromed
The bearings are also too small, 3/4" versus 1"...so have to swap out bearings....not sure if the hole in hub will have to machined out a hair to make the larger bearings and spacer work.[]
Other idea....buy a used hub that will work, and then lace up a rim to it, or send it off to be laced and trued.
cant you just take your stock 19 rim apartand put you hubin a 21 wheel?
im looking to do the same thing/
where is a good place to get a 21 rim only and then the spokes to make the stock streetbob hub work
thanks

If you are looking on ebay, beware that there are a number of newer 07 and 08 wheels that have the new 25mm bearings. Some sellers think they are the 1" but they are not! the diff is the 25mm are .984 smaller, and if you have a 1" axle it will not work. nor will a set of 1" or 3/4" bearings fit without machining the hub.
I bought a 21" 2008 softail custom profile laced wheel, Used a 2008 wideglide 25mm axle ( due to the wide glide conversion) and got "Lucky" with the taperedspacers.
Anytime you do a custom mod you are going to have a small amount of mental masturbation. LOL!
Their are plenty of us that have done this, so we can help.
A note on the newer 07 and 08 take off wheels that are starting to show up more and more, A lot of themhave the25mm bearings and the 3/4" and 1" bearings WILL NOT FIT without machining the inner hub. It is much more cost effective to use a 25mm axle if you find a good deal on a newer rim.
I would have gone through twice the hassle that i did to have the 21" wheel.
It is so worth it!
So I went in to the custom bike shop up the street yesterday and we decided to use my hub and lace up a 21" wheel with polished stainless spokes. I am also going to be upgrading the rear spokes. Then to finish it off I am powdercoating the rim and hubs F/R in a gloss black. Should look really nice on my bike. The down time is about a week or so. Not a problem though, the bike is just the weekend cruiser.
