I need some help figuring out the source of this strange noise I hear when riding. Here's what I know: I only happens when throttle is open just lopping along around the 2k - 3k range mostly, not when I coast. It sounds like a ringing / squeaking / slight metal clanging / whistleling sound. It's seems the sound would be from the front brake lever being loose and vibrating against the metal housing with a squeak thrown in there. It isn't a lever, it isn't the gremlin bell (different pitch), it's nothing I can reach and put my hand on while riding (I can't believe I haven't ditched it trying to find the sound), it's not a peg, foot brake lever, shift lever. I can't replicate the sound just sitting there with it idling or cracking the throttle...it's only when I am riding. It seems to come from in front of me on the bike, not behind.
I thought about the exhaust, but that doesn't seem to be it either. It doesn't increase / deacrease w/ speed either.
That exhaust bracket screw's days are numbered. I don't have the details yet as you have to think about the delicacies of using a flat sharp object in conjuction w/ a 4lb hammer in that area w/o damaging anything else.
Funny, I hear something just like that (a chirp?), but only when going around this one long right hand, banked turn from one freeway to the other. I know, it sounds stupid, but that's the only place my bike makes this noise - I thought it was my old exhaust, but the bike still makes the same noise, in exactly the same place, with completely different pipes. Nothing is loose that I know of - I normally do a pretty good walk around before every ride. I seem to remember a thread about something like this, but that was a long time ago. So far nothing has fallen off....
I don't know is it's the same sound, but I get noise from the front end on concrete roads (smooth) and when rolling over the smooth surfaces like patched sections of asphalt (crack seal).
In my case it has been reported to be caused by the Metzeler 880 front tire.
hey man mine did the same thing last year!!! i got ready to tear the motor apart and when i grabbed the A/C it moved... i tighened those bolt... that was it! may want to check that... to see if it is coming from your motor... (i know it sounds crazy) but have someone rev it up to where you hear the noise and to check to see if it is in your motor take a long screwdriver put it against the motor, and handle to your ear... i knwo sounds crazy but it work!!! just like a Dr brother... least htat will save you from cracking open the motor if you dont have to... on the other hand... if it is coming from in there... it will help you to determine that as well... let us know what is up...
JRK +1 on the a/c I was hearing something and figured out it was the outside cover of the hypercharger, one bolt gone and two loose sounded like a buzzing rattling from the front of the bike. Hope this helps
I had similar problem- check your heat shields. They can appear locked down tight but if any of the clapms gave slack, they can still buzz at certain RPMs.
