Default handle bar change out

Hey all,
I did a search on changing out handle bars but mostly what I got was it isn't too hard...nothing really detailed. Anyway I'm putting night train risers and bars on my lowrider. how hard is it to get the grips off without screwing the bar up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Its easy and I dont think you could screw up the bars

last one I did I used a strap wrench on the left grip to break it free. After its free just twist and turn like hell until its off. If the grips are tucked under the switch housing you will have to loosen the housings

Throttle grip is a little different. Loosen the housing and take the throttle cables loose, try not to drop the brass barrels. After you loose the brass barrels just go to HD and buy some new ones, most everyone has been through that

also, be careful not to wedge the brake lever behind the brake light switch or you will be replacing that too. (little button in the right housing)

That is all the warnings I can give.

get the service manual - will be worth it now and in future. The job is not hard. Take your time, watch out for the small stuff, and you'll be on your way.

only thing i got, on top of the other comments is i used a little WD40 in the left grip, and let it soak maybe 20 Mins. then twiested like hell and it broke free...no damage to bars or grip, and re-used it on the new bars.......didnt use any glue, just the housing holding it on, and its fine. this post helped me out a lot too....https://www.hdforums.com/m_1328001/tm.htm its about apes, but the concept is the same

If you read this link first, you'll have a good understanding of what you're getting into. After reading this thread, I didn't have to use the manual but a time or two. Once you dig in, it's pretty easy...
