Default Question about changing handlebars

Hey guys, I have a 13 Iron and am in the process of changing the bars to an 8" mini ape, now this si where Im curious. Ive seen posts about removing the grips, but is it possible to remove the entire switch housing/throttle sleeve/brake resevoir all together and slide it onto the new bars? Almost every bike I've owned before I could chnage them that way but I cant find an answer to these. Any insight would be greatly appreciated for both sides Thanks

Default bars

you can get the throttle grip off with the sleeve but the left grip might be trickier. I always get new grips when changing bars so I can just razor or rip off the left grip.

I have new grips so thats not a problem, I guess I was meaning to swap everything without undoing the throttle tube from the housing, etc

How will you get the new grip on the throttle side?

Thats wher epart of the question was heading, cant you just cut the rubber grip off of the throttle sleeve like a normal motorcycle grip and replace it with the new one? OR is there something dumb regarding this style?

Look at your new grips and see if their is a groove cut the whole way around the grip, close to the end that goes up to the housing,if their is part of the grips go inside the housing.
I am not sure on the newer sportsters if they are that way.

They aremt, and my new grips dont have a lip. Just standard 1" bar grips where the throttle side is a little bigger than the other
